Cloud Data Engineer

We are currently seeking a Cloud Data Engineer to support the development, implementation, and optimization of a cloud-based data environment tailored to meet evolving intelligence and analytical needs. The role focuses on building scalable and secure systems for data ingestion, transformation, storage, and dissemination, while collaborating with data scientists, engineers, and analysts across the Sponsor’s enterprise.

This position is ideal for a seasoned data engineer with strong AWS cloud experience, ETL pipeline development skills, and the ability to bridge communication between technical and non-technical teams.

 

Clearance Requirement: TS/SCI with Polygraph


Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between system engineers, data scientists, analysts, and non-technical stakeholders

  • Lead the design, implementation, and management of cloud-based ETL pipelines and data workflows

  • Develop and maintain data models, scripts, and documentation aligned with customers standards

  • Manage data migration projects from on-premise systems to cloud environments

  • Administer and optimize cloud services for data processing and storage

  • Coordinate access, permissions, and controls for datasets in accordance with governance policies

  • Ensure proper functioning of data infrastructure and coordinate with external platform providers

  • Train and support team members on ETL processes, high-capacity compute cluster usage, and data management practices

  • Implement CI/CD pipelines and adopt DevSecOps best practices

  • Provide ongoing improvements for system performance, reliability, and scalability


Mandatory Qualifications:

Candidates must demonstrate experience with the following:

  1. Acting as a technical liaison between technical teams (engineers, data scientists) and non-technical stakeholders

  2. Working with AWS cloud services, including long-term storage, compute, and managed database solutions like Databricks or Elastic MapReduce (EMR)

  3. Understanding of SQL database structures, including mapping across heterogeneous SQL systems

  4. Experience executing large-scale data migrations across environments

  5. Knowledge of database architecture, performance optimization, and system tuning (ideally with Glue, Hive, or Iceberg)

  6. Proficiency in Python, Bash, and Terraform for scripting and infrastructure as code

  7. Experience implementing DevSecOps practices and tools

  8. Hands-on experience building CI/CD pipelines with industry-standard tools


Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in Data Quality and Data Governance implementation

  • Proficiency in maintaining ETL processes using Apache NiFi and other data flow tools

  • Demonstrated experience with Apache Spark for distributed data processing


Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • A strong understanding of cloud-native data engineering principles

  • Experience working in high-security or government environments

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills

  • Ability to self-manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders

  • A passion for building efficient, scalable, and secure data systems
