We're seeking an exceptional Senior Engineer Manager who combines deep technical expertise in platform engineering with proven people leadership skills!

Machinify's Core Platform team is the foundation that powers our healthcare AI products. You'll lead a mature team responsible for building and evolving our internal platform-as-a-product—the self-service APIs, tools, services, and infrastructure that enable our product teams to ship faster, safer, and more reliably. You’ll create an environment where engineers do the best work of their careers—through trust, clarity, and intentional technical mentorship. This role requires someone who has built middleware and services for multiple applications at scale, understands what makes great platform engineering, and can evangelize platform adoption across the organization. You'll engage a team of backend engineers working on critical platform capabilities including feature flagging, job processing infrastructure, event-driven architecture, observability, data query layer, application framework and developer tooling. This is a technically deep leadership role where you'll balance strategic platform roadmap planning with day-to-day execution and team development.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead Platform Engineering Initiatives: Own the technical roadmap and execution for Core Platform services which are the foundations for the business application verticals, and enabling them at scale.

  • Build and Grow High-Performing Teams: Manage, mentor, and develop a team of backend engineers; conduct 1:1s, performance reviews, career development conversations, and hiring

  • Drive Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product engineering teams to understand their needs and evolve the platform to serve them better; act as an internal consultant and evangelist for platform adoption

  • Architect Scalable Platform Solutions: Own the design and implementation middleware and services that support multiple applications; ensure platform components are composable, flexible, secure-by-default, and self-service. Participate in architecture reviews, write RFCs, and drive technical decision-making; stay hands-on with code reviews and technical guidance when needed

  • Champion Engineering Excellence: Establish best practices for platform development including API design, versioning, backward compatibility, observability, and documentation; reduce cognitive load for platform consumers.

  • Balance Technical Debt and Innovation: Make strategic tradeoffs between feature velocity, technical debt, and platform evolution; use data and ROI frameworks (RICE, etc.) to prioritize initiatives

  • Improve Developer Experience: Measure and optimize platform adoption, API usability, and developer productivity; build tools and documentation that enable self-service

  • Navigate Healthcare Complexity: Understand the unique constraints of healthcare systems including compliance, data security, multi-tenancy, and audit requirements; ensure platform solutions meet healthcare standards

  • Own Operational Excellence: Ensure platform services meet SLAs for availability, performance, and reliability; Establish monitoring, alerting, and incident response processes

What You Bring

Required:

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in backend systems, distributed architecture, and platform engineering

  • 3+ years of engineering management experience leading teams of 6-10+ engineers; proven ability to hire, develop, and retain top talent

  • Platform Engineering Expertise: You've built middleware, shared services, or platform capabilities that serve multiple applications and teams; you understand what makes a great internal platform

  • Distributed Systems Experience: Strong understanding of microservices, event-driven architecture, message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ), API design, and service mesh patterns. Experience deploying such services to production at scale.

  • Backend Technology Depth: Proficiency in modern backend languages (Scala, Java, Python, Go, or similar) and frameworks; experience with containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)

  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Proven ability to lead initiatives across multiple teams; experience working with product managers, designers, and other engineering leaders to drive outcomes

  • Super Organized and Detail-Oriented: Exceptional project management skills; ability to juggle multiple initiatives, track dependencies, and deliver on commitments; creates clarity from ambiguity.

  • Technical Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to write clear RFCs, architecture docs, and API specifications; can explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

  • Product Mindset: Treats the platform as a product with internal customers; gathers requirements, prioritizes based on impact, and measures adoption and satisfaction

Preferred:

  • AI/ML Platform Experience: Built infrastructure for LLM integration, model serving, ML pipelines, or AI application development; understanding of prompt engineering, RAG systems, or AI observability

  • Healthcare Payment Integrity Domain Experience: Experience with several of: healthcare claims processing, payment integrity, medical coding, clinical NLP, healthcare data models, data mining in the domain.

  • Large-Scale Systems: Built platform services supporting hundreds of developers or processing millions of transactions per day

  • DevOps and Infrastructure: Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and GitOps workflows

  • Data Platform Experience: Built data pipelines, event streaming platforms, or analytics infrastructure

  • Strangler Fig Pattern: Experience with incremental migration strategies, legacy system modernization, or service extraction from monoliths

The salary for this position is based on an array of factors unique to each candidate: Such as years and depth of experience, set skills, certifications, etc. We are hiring for different levels, and our Recruiting team will let you know if you qualify for a different role/range. Salary is one component of the total compensation package, which includes meaningful equity, excellent healthcare, flexible time off, and other benefits and perks.

Pay range: $225,000-250,000.00
