The opportunity 

As a Staff, Mechanical Manufacturing Process Engineer you will work closely with electrical, optical, systems, industrial design, and mechanical engineering teams to design quality, high-volume consumer products. We are looking for candidates who are creative, energetic team players who excel in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

This position would be expected to perform as an individual contributor on a multi-disciplinary New Product Introduction team through development, design, manufacturing, and production release. Candidates must be highly innovative and enjoy working in dynamic and creative environments..

Location: This position requires being fully on-site at our Plantation, FL (HQ) facility, to ensure seamless collaboration and hands-on support for daily operations. Relocation assistance is available for non-local candidates.

What you’ll do 

  • Design, develop, and optimize volume manufacturing processes, including the creation and execution of comprehensive qualification plans.
  • Lead product and process improvements by driving critical design changes that enhance performance, quality, and manufacturability.
  • Research, identify, and specify best-in-class equipment, ensuring alignment with production goals and technical requirements.
  • Develop and implement equipment acceptance testing protocols, collaborating closely with vendors to refine and customize equipment solutions as needed.
  • Coordinate production ramp readiness activities by partnering with mechanical, electrical, optics, systems, and operations engineering teams to ensure seamless scale-up.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in root cause analysis and problem-solving efforts for opto-mechanical and electrical components or devices, ensuring timely resolution of manufacturing and product issue

The experience you bring

  • Over 10 years of industry experience in consumer electronics, compact imaging systems, and optical systems, with a strong focus on high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with extensive expertise in mechanical product design and system integration.
  • In-depth knowledge of fabrication methods, including injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, die casting, and lens manufacturing, particularly for consumer electronics and imaging systems.
  • Proficient with Creo (preferred), and skilled in FMEA, tolerance analysis, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experienced with SMT and PCB technologies across process development, design considerations, and failure analysis.
  • Well-versed in Six Sigma methodologies, including DMAIC, Cp/Cpk analysis, Measurement System Analysis (MSA), and Process Tuning (PT).
  • Strong skills in data analysis and process qualification to support product development and manufacturing excellence.
  • Hands-on experience with production ramp-up of high-volume products in domestic and international factory settings.
  • Ability to thrive in dynamic and creative environments, demonstrating confidence, adaptability, and a solutions-driven approach.

It’s exciting if you also have

  • Experience with automated adhesive and glue dispensing solutions, including equipment selection, process development, and optimization.
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with a focus on manufacturing, systems design, or product development.
  • Experience in designing, fabricating, and qualifying manufacturing fixtures to support assembly, testing, and process validation.

Additional Requirements

  • Flexibility to travel up to 25% to support activities across Magic Leap locations and vendor sites globally.

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location. In addition to salary, Magic Leap offers a discretionary bonus and a fully comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees.

US Base Salary Range

$135,000 - $155,000 USD
