The opportunity 

As a Senior Process Engineer within our  Eyepiece Process R&D Team, you will be an integral part of our R&D team and based in our Austin facility. Our team is dedicated to developing processes essential for eyepiece fabrication in augmented reality displays. This role focuses on data architecture, analysis, and plotting. You will have the opportunity to engage with multiple processes that drive cutting-edge R&D prototype projects using both internal Magic Leap and external vendor tooling. Additionally, you will develop innovative ways to visualize data in support of problem-solving.  This effort will extend overall process capability and will enable the reduction of higher-order contributors to process variation and push subsequent improvements in optical display performance.

Location: This position requires being fully on-site at our Austin, TX facility, to ensure seamless collaboration and hands-on support for daily operations. Relocation assistance is available for non-local candidates.

What you’ll do 

  • Coordinate with process owners and systems SW team members to define a data architecture/organization that enables efficient data visualization
  • Work with process owners to identify and generate key diagnostic plots to monitor overall process health and/or summarize data packages for prototype batch project deliverables
  • Drive a culture of process improvement through efficient data visualization and timely actionable feedback
  • Work in a collaborative manner with local systems SW engineers and members of the Magic Leap manufacturing execution system (MES) group to maintain the integrity and usefulness of process data output streams as process changes are made. 
  • Become an expert in eyepiece manufacturing (and associated sub-processes) to enable efficient communication and transfer of ideas and solutions to process owners and integration engineers.
  • Maintain an open mind during interactions with team stakeholders in the spirit of advancing practical and actionable solutions for data tracking and plotting.
  • Coordinate with supply chain team members to maintain part counts and reconcile inventory for prototype build projects.

The experience you bring

  • 5+ years of professional experience in nano fabrication, semiconductor processing, or other data-dense fieldBachelor’s degree in physics/chemistry/engineering, +3 years of direct data analysis experience in an applicable field.  We are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements.
  • Hands-on experience accessing data streams and building tool monitors from complex process/ metrology equipment
  • Experience working as part of a group of 4-8 people to advance a technical project
  • General understanding of processes used in nanofabrication and/or production of glass products- cutting, bonding, etching, lithography, deposition, and cleaning
  • Proficiency in generating reports and providing actionable data to equipment/process owners in 1-on-1 or small group settings
  • Familiarity with cleanroom protocols and best practices
  • Be able to work on multiple projects in parallel while effectively communicating project status in verbal and/or written formats
  • Create, edit, troubleshoot, and implement JMP scripts (or similar, i.e., Python) for data analysis/visualization

It’s exciting if you also have

  • Background serving as a process or tool owner in a lab or manufacturing setting
  • Ability to communicate issues associated with multiple data management platforms (JIRA, Confluence, SAP)
  • Familiarity with maintaining or implementing yield management systems/communication for automated and manual fab equipment

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location. In addition to salary, Magic Leap offers a discretionary bonus and a fully comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees.

US Base Salary Range

$140,000 - $155,000 USD
