The opportunity 

As a Staff Data Scientist on Magic Leap's Waveguide R&D team, you will be responsible for developing new or leveraging existing data pipelines and data structures for the process and metrology tools. You will work closely with all process and metrology teams to enable data automation and create standard dashboards and reports for the Waveguide R&D team, thereby accelerating our process development cycles. You will also be a key contributor to the deep data diving efforts, statistical analyses, and advanced algorithm development.

Location: This position requires being fully on-site at our Austin, TX facility, to ensure seamless collaboration and hands-on support for daily operations. Relocation assistance is available for non-local candidates.

What you’ll do 

  • Own data pipelines and data structures across process and metrology tools;
  • Enable data automation to be uploaded to the cloud across process and metrology tools;
  • Organize data in a cohesive and meaningful way, and develop data dashboards and standard reports, e.g. run charts or SPC charts, to meet functional teams’ needs;
  • Key contributor in the deep data-diving efforts and provide expert view on the suitable  statistical analysis method to the team;
  • When applicable, develop advanced data analysis algorithms to be included into the data pipelines. 

The experience you bring

  • BS or MS in engineering, science or related fields
  • 7+ years of industry experience in semiconductor engineering, optics/photonics components, or consumer electronics
  • 3+ years of experience in managing and developing data pipelines, data infrastructures, and data dashboards 
  • Ability to tackle and understand complex engineering systems and problems that span multiple disciplines
  • Ability to demonstrate expertise in database and statistical data analysis skills 
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment

It’s exciting if you also have

  • High-volume manufacturing experience in semiconductor engineering, optics/photonics components, or consumer electronics
  • Process experience in nano/micro fabrication
  • Process metrology experience, e.g. optical spectrometer, AFM, SEM, ellipsometer, or CMM
  • Photometry, colorimetry, and imaging quality measurements and analyses

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location. In addition to salary, Magic Leap offers a discretionary bonus and a fully comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees.

US Base Salary Range

$140,000 - $170,000 USD
