The opportunity 

The Product Development and Engineering roles are core of Magic Leap’s revolutionary AR capabilities. These highly collaborative teams are responsible for our organization's engineering and technical operations, performing cutting-edge and complex scientific research and development that is 'defined as we build' to create new AR products, features, and marketplaces. Activities include undertaking research, design, development, and implementation activities to improve Magic Leap’s AR products and services;  designing, constructing, testing, and operating equipment; ensuring that standards of quality, cost, safety, reliability, timeliness, and performance are met in production processes; interpreting plans, drawings, and specifications; and collaborating across all Magic Leap teams to ensure our AR product and features provide a high-quality, immersive experience, meeting and exceeding our customer’s needs and our business objectives.

As a Sr. Electro-Mechanical Assembly Technician for the Product Development and Engineering Organization, you will be responsible for building, upgrading, and maintaining custom manufacturing equipment for see-through augmented reality displays. 

What you’ll do 

  • Build and assemble precision mechanical mechanisms using detailed assembly drawings, bills of material, and engineering instructions.
  • Build and wire electrical control panels and cable harnesses that meet safety and performance specifications.
  • Route cables, pneumatic lines, and other components within complex equipment systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve electrical and mechanical equipment issues.
  • Support design improvements by documenting assembly processes, collecting drawing updates, and suggesting refinements.
  • Fabricate and assemble test fixtures and mockups with limited documentation.
  • Assist with the setup, crating, and shipment of custom equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-compliant workspace.

The experience you bring

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience building and troubleshooting control systems, custom equipment, or complex machinery.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical equipment issues.
  • Strong experience in electrical panel wiring, harness fabrication, and precision mechanical assembly.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

It’s exciting if you also have

  • Experience designing or maintaining equipment for clean room applications.
  • Familiarity with optics, illumination, and camera systems.
  • Experience programming, setting up, or teaching robots.

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location. In addition to salary, Magic Leap offers a discretionary bonus and a fully comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees.

US Hourly Salary Range

$33 - $38 USD
