Solutions Architect
SUMMARY
At Magnolia, the Solutions Architect, is responsible for designing and guiding end-to-end technical solutions that power Magnolia’s retail ecosystem—connecting everything from POS systems and supply chain logistics to loyalty programs and customer experiences. This role is equal parts visionary and hands-on, requiring a strong grasp of enterprise architecture, systems thinking, and real-world implementation. The Solutions Architect reports to the Sr. Manager of Engineering and has no supervisory responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design scalable, modular, and secure system architectures for key retail capabilities including eCommerce, POS, OMS/WMS, ERP, CRM, and loyalty platforms*
- Translate complex business needs into clear technical solutions. Partner cross-functionally to guide engineering teams toward high-performing, cost-effective implementations*
- Own the architectural design process—producing solution diagrams, integration specs, data models, and technical documentation that drive execution*
- Design microservices, APIs, and messaging frameworks that allow for real-time, reliable data exchange across Magnolia’s platforms*
- Architect seamless BOPIS, curbside, endless aisle, and mobile POS workflows to ensure a consistent experience across every customer touchpoint
- Identify opportunities to re-platform or refactor legacy systems into cloud-native, headless, and scalable architectures
- Mentor engineers, conduct code and design reviews, and champion best practices around performance, security, and scalability
- Define and maintain architectural principles, reference architectures, and design patterns to ensure consistency across enterprise systems
- Stay current on emerging tech. Assess, recommend, and pilot new tools, platforms, and vendor solutions that can enhance Magnolia’s retail tech stack
- Collaborate with engineering leadership and business stakeholders to shape long-term architectural roadmaps aligned to strategic business priorities
- Analyze the total cost of ownership (TCO) and recommend solutions that optimize cloud spend, licensing, and operational efficiency*
- Partner with delivery and product teams to ensure architecture is implemented as designed—providing technical oversight, quality assurance, and issue resolution throughout the SDLC
- Identify architectural risks, enforce data privacy and regulatory compliance, and ensure systems meet security standards and SLAs
- Work with external vendors, consultants, and integration partners to validate solution compatibility and technical alignment with Magnolia systems
- Maintain architecture repositories, solution records, and technical playbooks. Ensure continuity by enabling knowledge transfer across engineering teams

ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university preferred
- 8+ years of experience of industry experience preferred
- Deep knowledge of enterprise architecture, API design, microservices, and cloud platforms and of retail tech stack components: eCommerce, POS, OMS, WMS, ERP, CRM, and loyalty systems required
- Experience working with Agile development methodologies and DevOps teams
- Familiarity with retail platforms like Shopify Plus, Oracle Retail, Manhattan Associates, SAP Commerce, Adobe Commerce, or Microsoft Dynamics 365
- Must be available to be on call as business needs require

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
