Senior Specialist, Senior Accountant - Shared Financial Services

Location:
Remote positions are open to applicants based anywhere in the continental U.S. Hybrid positions are open to applicants based in the Phoenix, Arizona area.

The Role:
The Senior Specialist, Senior Accountant role performs various accounting functions for chapters who have elected to use Shared Financial Services (SFS) to ensure financials are recorded accurately and timely.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Knowledge of financial accounting including generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and financial statement preparation to ensure accurate, efficient, timely financial reporting and related processes.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to network with other departments within the organization, as well as externally, regarding various issues related to the financial reporting process.
- Familiarity with audit planning processes and procedures.
- Excellent knowledge of accounting and information systems applications, preferably in a non-profit environment.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with a high level of trust and confidentiality and possess strong business ethics.
- Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage time, prioritize, and effectively handle multiple assignments in a deadline driven environment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Supports chapters in accounting functions to ensure accurate and timely processing.
- Reviews and approves donation batches that have integrated to NetSuite (financial system) from Raiser’s Edge (donor processing system).
- Reviews check request for proper coding and approvals.
- Prepares bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Review trial balance for accuracy and completeness.
- Records and posts journal entries for monthly financial activity.
- Prepares and analyzes financial reporting package including monthly variance report.
- Reviews, researches, and analyzes data. Responds to inquiries from chapter staff.
- Assists with gathering of information and documents for annual audit process. Helps prepare chapter’s audit workbooks and is point of contact for assigned chapters.
- Assists with creating custom reports and queries in NetSuite, and/or Excel, as requested.
- Builds and maintains relationships with chapters.
- Leads month end close process, runs meetings, and serves as main point of contact for portfolio of chapters.
- Identifies ways to improve processes to be more efficient and effective.
- Provides support and direction for Accountants and Support Team Staff.
- Performs other job-related duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required.
- Minimal 2 years of experience in accounting and/or financial reporting is required.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications required, including demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience in Salesforce and NetSuite is strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of nonprofit organizations strongly preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Ability to thrive in a remote environment.
- Some travel required.
- May require work outside a traditional Monday – Friday work week, and outside normal business hours.
This Role's Hiring Range
$59,900 - $59,900 USD
