Lead Designer, Marketing Department

About the Role
MI is seeking an experienced, like-minded designer to lead design efforts across the organization—Marketing, Research, Development, and Events, as well as City Journal.
The person in this role will oversee the creation of a diverse set of assets for two highly regarded brands—Manhattan Institute and City Journal—across research publications, social media, multi-channel campaigns (on and offline), event collateral, and fundraising efforts. The successful candidate is tech savvy, experienced with UX/UI and visual design, familiar with the latest, widely adopted tools, and skilled at conceptualizing new ideas and executing them with rigor. In addition, MI seeks a candidate who possesses heightened aesthetic sensibility, attention to detail, and enthusiasm about MI’s mission and work. The person selected for this role should be comfortable working in teams, collaborating with others, and receiving feedback.
This role will report to the Vice President of Marketing, work closely with Content Strategy and Technology, and interface with all departments with a service mindset.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Design new website pages and microsites, integrating them with the brand portfolio
- Create graphics and layout structures for research publications
- Create graphics and animations for video assets
- Design event collateral in digital and print forms such as invitations, programs and menus
- Generate brand campaign ideas and assets to reach and engage new audiences
- Evolve the brand as needed without diluting equity and credibility
- Articulate and execute a visual vocabulary for the brands expressions on social media
- Manage a design resource, ensure that departmental deadlines are met, and deliverables adhere to the highest standards
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- 10 to 15 years of relevant experience
- Vast digital experience in UX and visual design
- Fluency in widely adopted design platforms and adjacent tools, including AI for design
- Superb collaboration skills
- Experience collaborating with tech teams
- Experience with premium/high-end/content-heavy brands
- Agency and multi-channel campaign experience a plus
Compensation and Benefits
Salary range: $140,000 - $170,000/year, based on experience and skills.
