Strategy & Operations
About Maple
Maple is a unified workforce management suite (scheduling, time & attendance, and payroll, with more to come), purpose-built for long-term care and designed for a modern, flexible workforce. Our goal is to help nursing homes transform their labor operations and streamline costs. We also aim to help healthcare workers access new opportunities and build financial health.
We got our start in long-term care, but we’re excited to address similar pain points across other industries. We want to be the go-to workforce management solution for any flexible workforce industry.
We started building in early 2023, launched to our first customers in May, and have seen rapid growth since. We were previously incubated within Clipboard (think of a startup within a startup), but recently spun out as a sibling company.
About the Role
Maple is in an exciting stage. We’ve found a strong product-market fit in long-term care, and our customer base is growing quickly. We’re hiring a Strategy & Operations (S&O) generalist to continue driving this growth.
You’ll own high-priority projects end-to-end across the following areas:
- Scaling operations: staying close to the customer + using customer insights to inform how we scale (see examples below)
- Each person on the team is in ~15 WhatsApp groups with different customers. We want to bring the time from “customer has a thought” → “we learn that feedback” to 0.
- We believe every person on our team should be able to “do the jobs of our customer” - and do them well. One team member became an expert on how to submit nursing home government reports by volunteering to submit reports on behalf of our customer.
- Product strategy: making sure we’re launching the right features to our customers, quickly (see example below)
- One of our team members had an idea for a new service that automatically completes a daily task for customers. Before building the service into our product (which could’ve taken weeks), they launched the service in under a week using an offshore team to ‘mimic’ the automation.
- New industries: exploring other flexible workforce industries Maple could serve, such as construction, airport security, support agent, and more
What We’re Looking For
We value ownership, good instincts on what’s right, resourcefulness in knowing where to go to get the right answers, customer-centricity, persistence and first principles thinking.
A lot of companies say they value these qualities; here’s what they mean to us:
- We write, a lot. We believe writing = thinking, and clear writing = clear thinking.
- We read, a lot. We post discussions in our #general Slack channel so everyone can learn by osmosis. The only limiting factor for your growth is how much time you have to read. You don’t have to know anything about workforce management software or nursing homes on day 1, but we expect you to be an expert by day 90!
- Our internal bar for "good enough" is higher than our customers. For example, one of our team members thought a customer's tax setup was incorrect. They called the customer, who assured them it wasn’t. They didn't stop digging there; instead, they called the state tax agency themselves to verify the setup (and indeed, the customer was wrong). That digging saved the customer thousands in fees (and we learned a ton about state tax filings in the process).
Why Join Maple?
- Have extreme ownership over projects that are important to our customers and the business
- No fixed ceiling. The scope of your work and level of responsibility will grow with your performance.
- Work on real problems with real impact
- Get experience being fast and scrappy in a start-up environment
- Backing from a $1.3B-valued company (Clipboard)
- Competitive total compensation ($110K - $170K depending on experience)
- Zero commute. Work wherever you are in the U.S.
