Application Engineer (G.China and APAC)

As an Application Engineer you will be part of our world-class team representing the face of Markforged across APAC. You operate at the intersection of engineering, manufacturing, and commercial execution.
The Application Engineer is a blend of manufacturing consultant, technical expert, and business problem solver. In this role you will work closely with sales, partners, and customers to identify high-value applications, build strong technical and financial justification for adoption, and drive successful implementation of Markforged solutions in production environments.
This role requires deep engagement with customers through proactive outreach, on-site manufacturing assessments, and frequent travel across the region.
What will you own:
- Be the leader in technical pre-sales conversations with customers and partners, determining solutions for
Customer Application Discovery
- Conduct “Walk the Line” manufacturing assessments with customers to identify parts suitable for additive manufacturing, focusing on cost reduction, lead time reduction, and supply chain resilience.
- Engage production engineers, maintenance teams, and operations leaders to uncover high-value applications where Markforged technology can deliver measurable ROI.
ROI and Business Case Development
- Develop Return on Investment (ROI) models and application business cases that quantify savings from converting traditionally manufactured parts to additive manufacturing.
- Translate technical value into financial outcomes including cost reduction, reduced downtime, supply chain flexibility, and inventory reduction.
Proactive Customer Engagement
- Drive proactive outbound engagement with the installed customer base, identifying new applications and expansion opportunities.
- Conduct regular customer meetings (virtual and onsite) to ensure adoption, identify additional applications, and support growth within existing accounts.
Technical Pre-Sales Leadership
- Lead technical discovery, demonstrations, and solution design for strategic opportunities with both customers and channel partners.
- Take a solution-selling approach, ensuring that each aspect of the Markforged platform is positioned to solve real manufacturing problems.
Partner Enablement
Work closely with channel partners across APAC to develop their application engineering capability. Train partners on:
- Identifying applications
- Conducting walk-the-line assessments
- Building ROI cases
- Positioning Markforged solutions against traditional manufacturing methods
Application Development & Customer Success
- Support customers in developing and validating production applications.
- Help customers successfully deploy Markforged technology into real production workflows, ensuring high utilization and measurable outcomes.
Thought Leadership & Market Development
Develop technical content including:
- Case studies
- Webinars
- Application notes
- Demonstrations
Provide feedback to product, sales, and marketing teams based on real-world customer insights.
Collaboration with Sales

Work closely with sales teams and partners on strategic opportunities, supporting pipeline development, opportunity qualification, and technical validation.
Post-Sales Customer Support & Adoption
- Support customers after installation to ensure successful adoption of Markforged technology within their manufacturing workflows. Work closely with customers to develop and validate initial applications, ensuring parts meet performance, quality, and production requirements.
- Conduct follow-up engagements with customers to identify additional applications and ensure the technology is delivering the expected operational and financial benefits.
- Collaborate with Markforged Customer Success and Support teams to resolve technical challenges, troubleshoot issues, and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Help customers scale usage of Markforged technology by expanding into new applications, departments, or production environments.
- Document successful applications and customer outcomes to support case studies, internal knowledge sharing, and future sales opportunities.
What you have:
- Bachelor of Science, Engineering or equivalent work experience
- Proven experience of technical pre-sales or application engineering in a technology company, preferably with hardware and software, or with industrial / capital expense equipment
- Experience with Additive Manufacturing would be beneficial as well as knowledge of Design for Manufacturing
- In-depth understanding of general manufacturing processes and techniques
- Knowledge and experience with major CAD software such as Fusion 360, Solidworks, NX
- As a highly organised individual, you will have be able to demonstrable significant project management skills to ensure projects, processes, and technical pre-sales are on track
- Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and deliver, thriving in a fast-paced, demanding and time-driven environment
- Demonstrable ability to communicate and present to large groups at an appropriate level to suit the complexity of the audience
- Willingness to travel up to 60% (domestic and international)
- Excellent spoken and written English is essential, with additional languages being of benefit
- You will have the desire and drive to work both independently and as part of a hard-working team, with the ability to respond to changing priorities to meet customer and business needs
- Understanding of and enthusiasm for working across multiple cultures and time zones
