We are seeking a powerful storyteller to join our team to elevate corporate messaging strategy to new heights. This visionary and results-driven VP, Corporate Communications will partner with Marqeta's leadership team to set the strategic direction for all corporate communications across internal and external audiences. Reporting to the Interim-CEO, this role requires someone with strategic vision who also loves to roll up their sleeves and execute with the team.
The ideal candidate has a proven track record of successfully shaping messages that resonate with public company stakeholders, employees, and customers. You will transform complex business objectives into engaging and impactful communications across all corporate communication channels.
We work Flexible First. This role can be performed remotely anywhere within the United States or from our Oakland, CA headquarters. We’d love for you to join us!
The Impact You’ll Have
- Strategic Direction and Leadership
- Set the strategic direction for all corporate communications, encompassing media relations, internal communications, executive communications, social media, and product PR
- Work closely with the executive team to shape our public image and drive critical conversations with key stakeholders
- Develop and execute comprehensive global communications strategies that align with Marqeta's business objectives, growth initiatives, and product roadmap
- Craft and disseminate compelling narratives that align with our business strategy and resonate with key audiences across all touchpoints (internal and external)
- Partner with the Head of Integrated Marketing to bring the brand to life across all touchpoints
- External Communications
- Drive media relations strategy to secure strategic coverage that showcases Marqeta's technology leadership, business momentum, and industry expertise
- Partner with Investor Relations to create a maintain a consistent corporate narrative across all external communications
- Develop and execute innovative social media campaigns that drive brand awareness, build thought leadership, and enhance our reputation
- Create and maintain crisis communication protocols to effectively manage potential issues and protect Marqeta's reputation
- Internal Communications
- Lead the development and execution of our internal communications strategy across teams
- Ensure that our employees are informed, engaged, and inspired through company meetings, internal messaging, etc.
- Work closely with HR and other departments to create a culture of open and transparent communication
- Partner with HR and leadership to support change management, cultural initiatives, and organizational announcement
- Measurement and Team Leadership
- Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as brand reputation, employee sentiment, and social media impact to measure the effectiveness of communications programs
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of communications professionals, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented environment
- Manage agency relationships and external resources to maximize impact and effectiveness
- Continuously monitor industry trends and best practices to evolve our communications approach
Who You Are
- 15+ years of progressive experience in corporate communications, with a strong preference for experience in B2B and/or the payments or fintech space
- Experience leading communications in a public company or a division of a public company is strongly preferred
- Experience setting the overall corporate messaging strategy across an organization and building measurement frameworks
- Exceptional written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Strong ability to influence C-suite leaders and shape compelling messages with limited direction
- A proven track record of success in developing and executing integrated communications campaigns
- Experience in crisis management and issues management
- Background in building relationships with top-tier media outlets
- Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or related field; advanced degree a plus

Compensation and Benefits
Marqeta is a Flex First company which allows you to choose your best working environment, whether that be from home or at a company office. To support Flex First, we calibrate pay to a competitive value according to working location. Compensation is aligned according to three tiers within the United States:
- National: A baseline tier that applies to most of the geographic territory of the United States.
- Premium: Slightly elevated from the National tier, and oriented toward a narrower set of higher cost-of-living areas, such as Los Angeles CA and Seattle WA
- Premium Plus: A tier for the most expensive working areas, like the San Francisco Bay area and New York City.

When determining salaries, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The new-hire base salary range for this position is:
- National: $230,100 - $287,600
- Premium: $249,000 - $311,200
- Premium Plus: $270,600 - $338,300
