📣 A bit about the role:

We're on the lookout for someone to join the founding team of Marro as the leader of the Marro Product Engineering team. You will lead and work closely with engineers, product managers, designers, and commercial & operational stakeholders to help solve our customers' problems and directly impact their (and their cat's) daily lives.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Lead a team of 5 engineers, a PM and a designer to help deliver a world-class digital experience to our customers.
  • Work directly with stakeholders on new features and improvements, helping improve the customer experience every day.
  • Work closely with the Managing Director of Marro to shape the roadmap and strategic direction of Marro.
  • Help your team deliver features on time while considering aspects like maintainability and reliability.
  • Own the architecture and development direction of the teams to ensure quality code is written and excellent products are built.
  • Help manage members of your team and help them grow and develop at Marro through feedback, motivation, guidance and mentorship.
  • Collaborate, learn with, and give feedback to other team members via pair programming, mentoring, code reviews, and technical talks.
  • Learn about and champion best practices in code, architecture & processes.
  • Spend a significant amount of your time coding to help contribute to the team's goals.
  • Help play a key part in building Marro’s culture.
  • Report into the Director of Engineering for Butternut, our sister company, and stay close with the Butternut Product Engineering team to share learnings and opportunities to collaborate.

👋 A bit about you.

  • Strong customer-focused and product-minded approach to building software that is supported by interacting with customers to understand their needs and are used to prioritising outcomes and impact over all else.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, adept at navigating product challenges, and actively input into shaping product vision. You thrive in early ideation stages, share work-in-progress (such as drafts or MVPs) to gather feedback when it's about 70% complete, and easily adapt based on input. You have a constant drive to ship products quickly and iterate on them.
  • Comfortable managing technical debt pragmatically with an ability to strategically balance resilience, testing, and documentation with making quick trade-offs in order to ship products that prioritise impact or implementation.
  • Relevant commercial experience at high-growth startups, with experience in management of engineers and a passion for helping them grow.
  • An interest in constantly learning new tools and developing your skills.
  • Passion for startups and small teams.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Obsessed with cats!

ℹ️ Logistics:

  • This team works 3 days per week from our West London office (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday) and 2 days from home. This is non negotiable, so please only apply if you’re within a reasonable commute of London.
