About The Role

We’re seeking a strategic, creative leader to shape and deliver the next generation of immersive learning experiences at MasterClass. With the rapid evolution of AI and immersive technology, we’re redefining what world-class learning looks like, and design is at the center of that transformation. Join MasterClass to architect this bold new frontier in learning. As VP of Product Design, you’ll combine hands-on craft with strategic leadership, partnering directly with the CEO and CPO to turn bold ideas into breakthrough products used by millions.

 

What You Will Do: 

  • Partner directly with the CEO and CPO to translate big ideas into breakthrough products, elevating the MasterClass experience and driving global engagement and growth. Help shape fuzzy ideas into polished products, championing breakthrough design that feels intuitive, cohesive, and emotionally resonant.
  • Define and drive the design vision, with a primary focus on new product initiatives. Set the tone for end-to-end product experience, aligning design strategy with company goals and the aspirations of millions.
  • Be hands-on. Roll up your sleeves and lead by example, diving into the work alongside your team, from wireframes to visual systems, to ensure craft and quality at every stage.
  • Serve as a strategic voice at the executive table, championing design’s role in shaping product and company direction.
  • Anticipate the future. Stay ahead on industry advancements in AI, immersive tech, visual systems, and infuse them into the design roadmap.
  • Lead & grow a world-class team of designers and researchers. Develop a vibrant, collaborative culture: hire, mentor, elevate.
  • Partner seamlessly with Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Analytics to ensure design drives outcomes.

 

Who You Are

  • A trailblazing designer with results. You’ve shipped consumer products at massive scale (multi-millions MAUs) – starting from zero-to-one and exiting or integrating into Big Tech.
  • Hands-on thinker. While you chart strategy, you’re equally comfortable shaping pixel-level flows, guiding rapid prototypes, and diving into user research.
  • Strategically sharp. You’re data-informed, business-savvy, deeply user-focused, and able to define and measure success across both.
  • Technical fluency. Mastery of Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, prototyping tools, with a curiosity for emerging design tech.
  • A proven leadership presence. Whether building design from scratch at Series B/C or shaping flagship products at Big Tech, you thrive at scale.

 

Experience & Qualifications

  • 15+ years in product design with 8+ years in leadership, shaping design organizations and practices.
  • Demonstrated track record of launching and scaling high-adoption consumer products.
  • A portfolio that stands out: showcases elegant UX, scalable systems, strategic thinking, and delightful interaction.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication - storytelling is in your DNA.
  • Comfort working in ambiguity - fast-paced startup environments excite you.

The salary range listed is for NYC/CA/WA. As a company, we have a location based strategy, which means the disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for any applicable geographic differential associated with the location where the position may be filled.

MasterClass’s salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our size and industry. In addition to salary, we also offer equity and comprehensive benefits (medical, dental, vision, flexible PTO, and more). The range listed is for the expectations as laid out in the job description, however we are often open to a wide variety of profiles, and recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than this job description as posted. If that ends up being the case, the updated salary range will be communicated with you as a candidate.
