Our team spans the US (with a NYC headquarters), Canada, and EMEA.

Investors:

Kleiner Perkins, Redpoint Ventures and Lightspeed Venture Partners.

About the Role

At Materialize, QA is a big deal. Quality is a foundational part of our engineering process that ensures we are meeting all of our ambitious requirements of correctness, reliability, performance, and scale, without sacrificing on velocity or developer productivity. Here, QA operates as a platform that levels up the whole organization–QA crafts the tools and workflows that, put in the hands of our product teams, allows every engineer to autonomously and confidently build and deploy trusted code every day.

With this role we are looking to double the size of our QA team (by adding you!), which, to start, will have particular focus on improving our release process and expanding our performance & scalability infrastructure. The role will be based out of New York City at our headquarters near Astor Place, and is in-office 3-5 days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Own the infrastructure and flow of our product’s weekly release process. Automate away all the toil. Develop a lightweight workflow that allows our Database and Cloud teams to run silky smooth deployments week over week.
  • Establish and maintain the tooling to measure performance, scalability, and other non-functional characteristics of the database. Empower product teams to autonomously measure and act on these insights within their own planning & development lifecycle.
  • Build the infrastructure needed to accurately simulate realistic production workloads. Put it in the hands of our product teams so they can easily verify and benchmark their work against custom workloads of all shapes and sizes.
  • Analyze the full lifecycle of defects across our development process. Identify when and where we detect bugs and regressions, and strengthen feedback loops to shift detection left.
  • Own and improve the infrastructure that powers daily development and developer productivity, from our Bazel builds, to Buildkite CI, to local testing frameworks. (If you’re curious to read more about some of the work in this space, take a look at our recent post on Speeding up CI)

About You

  • 4+ years of experience with software engineering focused on automation, infrastructure, and quality.
  • Able and excited to work from our NYC headquarters 3-5 days a week (we can offer relocation assistance if you are not currently in NYC).
  • Strong programming fundamentals. Our QA code is primarily in Python and Rust–if either of these are unfamiliar to you, you are excited to learn them.
  • Deep familiarity with CI/CD, build systems, and how to keep them performant and reliable.
  • Well-versed in defining and quantifying functional and non-functional requirements of complex systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Able to work cross-functionally and drive decisions across many stakeholders.
  • Motivated to develop tools and workflows that make the development process of other engineers better.
  • Strong CS fundamentals or equivalent experience; exposure to distributed systems and databases is a strong plus.

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
