Staff Research Associate

Mather HQ (Evanston, IL)

Mather Institute is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Staff Research Associate to support the successful execution of applied research that informs and advances the Senior Living and Aging Services industries. The role involves contributing to research on wellness-related topics such as social connection, physical health, and perceptions of aging—helping shape more inclusive, wellness-focused communities for older adults. Ideal candidates will bring strong organizational and communication skills, experience with data collection and analysis, the ability to manage multiple responsibilities, and a genuine interest in aging services and community-based research. Familiarity with tools like online survey programs, SPSS, and Excel is a plus.

This is a full-time, salaried, hybrid position based out of Mather’s headquarters in Evanston, Illinois. While the role offers the flexibility to work remotely most of the time, weekly in-person collaboration at our headquarters is essential. These on-site interactions help foster teamwork, strengthen communication, and support the meaningful exchange of ideas that drive our research forward.

As part of your application for the Staff Research Associate position, please submit a writing sample that best reflects your research and writing abilities. The sample should be a research paper primarily authored by you, either as the sole author or first author. Appropriate examples include a published article, a thesis or dissertation, or a manuscript prepared for publication.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Data Collection & Management: Design and administer surveys, manage databases, and conduct data analysis for internal and external research studies.
  • Project Coordination: Coordinate project logistics, including participant scheduling and communication, and track progress across multiple research initiatives.
  • Report Writing & Dissemination: Prepare research reports, contribute to manuscripts for publication, and support the creation of content for newsletters, websites, and professional presentations. Present findings at conferences and seminars.
  • Research Administration: Assist with Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications, literature reviews, and other administrative research tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Required:

  • Master’s degree in psychology or other health-related field
  • Survey and data management experience
  • Sound statistical skills and experience with a statistical analysis software package (preferably SPSS)
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Experienced in library searches and contributing to literature reviews and publications
  • Supports a team environment
  • Goal-driven and motivated to meet targets and deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs

The salary range for this position is a good faith estimate of the range Mather reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of the posting. The actual wage paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to specific skills or certifications, years of experience, geographic location and market changes.  Holiday Bonus eligibility, where applicable. The position is also eligible to participate in Mather benefit plans.

Salary Pay Range

$68,000 - $75,000 USD
