Assistant Director of Nursing

We’re seeking an Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) who shares our commitment to wellness and has a passion for supporting team members as they grow in their nursing craft. In this full-time, salaried role, you’ll lead with purpose, supervising a talented team of RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and dual-certified CNA/Caregivers in a collaborative, positive environment.
As ADON, you’ll play a key leadership role in maintaining clinical excellence, managing nursing operations, and driving quality improvement initiatives—all while embracing our person-centered approach. We’re looking for someone with strong communication skills, clinical expertise, and the ability to solve problems, stay organized, and adapt in a dynamic setting. Empathy, attention to detail, and a passion for developing and empowering team members are essential. This position requires flexibility to work weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays—perfect for a leader who thrives on making a meaningful impact every day.
Essential Functions
- Follows policies and practices ensure consistency with current standards promulgated by and appropriate local, state, and federal regulatory bodies.
- Participates in a quality assessment/performance improvement program.
- Identifies and reports deviations from safe practice/risk management issues.
- Is competent in acting in emergency situations based on Safety Manual, Internal and External Emergency Preparedness and other policies.
- Complies with Mather Code of Conduct, Policies, Compliance Programs, and all applicable laws and regulations in performance of one’s job duties; reports all known and suspected violations to his/her supervisor or manager, Mather Compliance Officer, a Human Resources representative, or the confidential employee helpline.
- Establishes, operationalizes, engages team members in, and sustains a Quality Assurance Process Improvement process.
- Performs clinical and technical aspects of care in accordance with established policies, protocols, standards of care and practice, regulatory mandates, and within limits of the respective State Nurse Practice Act.
- Applies the concepts of the Mather Wellness Model and the 3 A’s in the care of residents, Achievement, Autonomy, and Affiliation.
- Documents care per documentation policy and standards.
- Assists in licensing and survey preparedness and processes.
- Attends/participates in care center meetings, in-services and committee meetings.
- Supports safety and risk management for nursing operations and staff, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures with respect to resident and employee safety, risk management, residents rights and privacy.
- To serve as a contact for nursing staff, residents and resident representatives to assist with concerns and questions about operations.
- Uses a customer-focused approach to problem solving, goal setting and management philosophy.
- Maintains a courteous and professional manner through interactions with others.
- Maintains Medicare / sub-acute unit within federal and state standards.
- Communicates with residents and families in a timely manner.
- Uses discretion in handling confidential information, incorporating all Federal, State and local privacy and confidentiality requirements.
- Interactions with employees, residents, resident representatives, and guests will reflect our commitment to inclusivity.
- Provides input for all relevant human resource functions including but not limited to: hiring, retention, disciplinary actions, and performance evaluations.
- Participates in resident and family education and counseling.
- Ensures that the required parties are notified of a resident change of condition.
- Responsible for protecting and advocating for resident rights.
- Participates in care plan meetings.
- Demonstrates understanding of and commitment to the company Mission, Vision, and Values.
- Create exceptional experiences for internal and external customers in every interaction.
- Operates efficiently within established parameters to maximize available resources.
- Participates in sales and promotion of the community.
- Incorporates fiscal responsibility through the provision of efficient, safe and cost-effective practices in the delivery of care.
- Responsible for covering shifts as a staff nurse, when required.
- Monitors and evaluates staffing ratios and patterns in accordance with needs for nursing care and services.
- Participates in orientation of new employees.
- Increases personal growth and development through formal and informal education programs.
- Facilitates teamwork between functional departments to promote effective operations.
- Participates in employee wellness opportunities and creates opportunities for team members to participate.
- Responsible for keeping abreast of changes in evidence-based practice, regulatory requirements and professional regulations.
Qualifications and Skills
Required:
- Current State RN license.
- Experience in nursing leadership CPR/AED certification.
Preferred:
- Minimum 2 years experience as ADON or management of Medicare unit.
