Motion Design Internship Summer 2026 (On-site, New York)

MATTE is a 360° full-service creative studio at the convergence of hype, storytelling and design. Our studio capabilities range from strategic ideation and insights, creative development, branding and identity, experiential, web design and development, campaigns and content creation, all the way through full-scale production and execution.

DESCRIPTION:

The Motion Design Intern will support the creative team in bringing ideas to life through dynamic, visually compelling motion across digital, social, and experiential platforms. This role offers hands-on experience in a fast-paced creative environment, with exposure to the full motion process—from concept development through animation and final delivery—while contributing to high-impact visual storytelling.

Responsibilities and learning opportunities include:

• Assist in the creation of motion graphics and animations aligned with overall creative direction
• Support the development of storyboards, animatics, and motion concepts
• Execute clean, engaging animations for social, digital, and presentation needs
• Prepare and optimize motion assets for various platforms and formats
• Collaborate with designers and creatives to translate static designs into motion
• Provide day-to-day support to the creative team across multiple projects
• Research references, motion trends, and techniques to inform creative development
• Stay up to date on emerging tools, platforms, and motion design trends to continuously elevate output

REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be enrolled in a University or Master’s program.
• Must be available for a minimum of 3 days per week to work at our offices in New York.
• Must be available between June 1st, 2026 and August 7th, 2026 Internships begin June 1st, 2026.
• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Motion Design, Animation, Graphic Design, or a related field
• Proficiency in Adobe After Effects required; familiarity with Premiere Pro, Cinema 4D, Blender, or similar tools is a plus
• Basic understanding of motion principles, timing, typography in motion, and visual storytelling
• Strong design sensibility with attention to composition, pacing, and detail
• Portfolio demonstrating motion work (school projects, personal work, or freelance)
• Ability to take direction, incorporate feedback, and iterate quickly
• Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Interest in culture, design, and emerging creative trends across digital and experiential spaces
• Proactive, curious, and eager to learn with a positive, team-oriented attitude

COMPENSATION:

This internship is unpaid. School credit can be provided.
