Compute Architect
What MatX Is Building
MatX designs hardware tailored for the world’s best AI models. Our hardware will make a given level of intelligence available 3-5 years sooner. We are developing vertically integrated full-stack solutions from silicon to systems including hardware and software to train and run the world’s largest models.
We are seeking an experienced ML accelerator compute architect to help design MatX’s next generation of chips. This role focuses on the architecture of computational units, their memories, and connectivity.
What You'll Do Here
- Define ISA and microarchitecture for compute, memories, and interconnects
- Derive architectural requirements from ML/AI use cases
- Author architectural specifications
- Specify numeric formats and quantization strategies
- Collaborate closely with Research, Software, and Hardware teams
- Participate in architecture review, design reviews, and test planning.
- Support first-silicon bring-up and post-silicon debug
Who You Are
- Strong background in computer architecture
- Ability to estimate area, timing, and power hardware cost, area, and power estimation to inform architectural tradeoffs
- Strong fundamentals in latency, throughput, and scalability theory
- Knowledge of numeric formats and quantization techniques
- Experience with programming and code optimization
- Ability to define structured interfaces and bit-level encodings using structs and tagged unions
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- This is a hybrid role that will require you to work from our Mountain View, CA office 3 days a week on Tuesday through Thursday
Bonus Points If You Have
- Familiarity with parallel execution models such as VLIW, SIMD, or vector architectures
- Experience designing custom ML silicon or systems

- Compensation
- 0-5 years of experience - $120,000 - $200,000 + equity
- 5-10 years of experience - $120,000 -$300,000 + equity
- 10+ years experience - $120,000 - $400,000 + equity
