We’re seeking a strategic, collaborative, and business-minded Deputy General Counsel, Digital Healthcare to shape the future of digital health at Maven. This is a critical leadership role supporting our teams that span our product and engineering organizations, operations, clinical, marketing and communications.
You'll partner closely across teams to provide healthcare, compliance, and privacy expertise that unlocks progress, ensures patient trust, and supports our clinical model. You’ll manage a team of healthcare lawyers and compliance professionals, and serve as a regulatory expert and collaborative partner to the balance of the legal team. As a key member of the legal leadership team, you’ll interact with executives and key stakeholders on regulatory and healthcare compliance cross-functional initiatives. You’ll play a critical role in guiding how we build and deliver our products, ensuring that innovation and regulatory strength go hand-in-hand across our platform. You'll help shape Maven's overall legal department strategy, drive measurable business impact through regulatory excellence, and manage budget and resources for your team. Reports to the Chief Legal and Administrative Officer.
As a Deputy General Counsel, Digital Healthcare, you will:
- Guide Product and AI Development: Provide strategic counsel to product, engineering, clinical, and operations teams on healthcare and regulatory considerations across the product lifecycle, including AI-powered features and decision support. Develop a framework for responsible AI implementation that balances innovation with regulatory compliance and ethical considerations.
- Lead a High-Impact Team: Develop and manage a team of legal professionals with a focus on business results. Create opportunities for team members to grow their skills and take on increasing responsibility. Align team structure and capabilities with Maven's business needs.
- Build Scalable Systems & Cross-Functional Alignment: Develop and maintain healthcare compliance frameworks, privacy protocols, and product review processes that reflect a deep understanding of Maven’s business. Build strong, collaborative relationships across business teams to streamline regulatory review, compliance documentation, and cross-functional decision-making.
- Lead Practical Privacy Programs: Oversee Maven’s privacy program, in collaboration with security and data stakeholders. Develop and implement comprehensive privacy strategies that address HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA, and emerging global privacy laws while enabling Maven’s data-driven business model.
- Manage Healthcare Compliance: Lead a small, focused compliance team and ensure alignment with federal and state healthcare laws, payer requirements, and clinical operations
Act as a Strategic Legal Partner: Anticipate legal and regulatory risks early and work cross-functionally to address them while advancing Maven’s roadmap. Establish protocols for product compliance reviews, regulatory assessments, and develop healthcare strategies that protect Maven while enabling business objectives. - Advise on Contracting Strategy: Support Commercial Legal with healthcare subject matter guidance on all contracts. Develop standardized regulatory provisions that address healthcare specific requirements while streamlining the contracting process.
- Partner Across Legal Teams: Work closely with the Legal teams to ensure seamless integration across the business. Develop joint workflows and communication channels that enable efficient collaboration between legal specialties and create a unified approach to supporting Maven's business objectives.
We’re looking for you to bring:
- 12+ years of legal experience, including at least 5+ years in-house in healthcare, digital health, or similarly regulated environments
- Deep expertise in healthcare law, US and global privacy frameworks, and healthcare regulatory obligations
- Strong background in product counseling, with demonstrated ability to influence fast-moving teams with clear, business-aware guidance
- Track record of building or leading compliance programs, including people management experience
- Exceptional communicator and relationship builder who brings clarity, pragmatism, and confidence to complex topics
- Direct experience advising on legal and ethical implications of AI in healthcare or other complex data environments is strongly desired
- Comfortable with ambiguity and the ability to provide clear guidance in evolving regulatory landscapes
- Familiarity with privacy program management tools is a plus
The base salary range for this role is $265,000 - $305,000 per year. You will also be entitled to receive stock options and benefits. Individual pay decisions are based on a number of factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, and skillset.
Maven embraces a flexible hybrid work model. Our teams primarily operate from the New York Metropolitan area, NY, and remotely via San Francisco/Bay Area, CA, Seattle, WA, Boston, MA, Chicago, IL, and Washington, D.C. For those in our New York City office, we encourage in-person collaboration by requiring team members to work onsite three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). For those based in San Francisco/Bay Area, CA, Seattle, WA, Boston, MA, Chicago, IL, and Washington, D.C., we encourage in-person collaboration by requiring team members to attend quarterly Work Together Days within these cities. This policy aims to balance remote work flexibility with the benefits of face-to-face interaction.
This role requires active work authorization in the US.
