The Opportunity
Maybell Quantum is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Specialist to bridge the gap between Senior Production Technicians and Manufacturing Engineers. This is a highly hands-on role focused on building, troubleshooting, improving, and stabilizing manufacturing processes for dilution refrigerators. The position is ideal for a technically strong individual with an associate degree who demonstrates engineering aptitude, structured problem-solving skills, and ownership of manufacturing outcomes.
This role is 100% hands-on and execution-focused, with increasing responsibility for process improvement, lean initiatives, and small project leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform hands-on mechanical and electrical assembly and testing of dilution refrigerators and critical subassemblies
- Execute complex fabrication and rework while developing and refining manufacturing methods and procedures
- Serve as the primary technical problem solver on the production floor, leading root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Operate production equipment (ovens, presses, leak checkers, etc.) and drive improvements to safety, reliability, and throughput
- Own and lead manufacturing improvement initiatives, including yield improvement, defect reduction, and cycle-time reduction
- Support and mentor technicians by providing hands-on guidance, technical coaching, and troubleshooting support
- Create, maintain, and continuously improve work instructions, standard work, and visual aids
- Actively participate in Lean manufacturing systems, including tier meetings, daily management, and structured problem-solving
- Collaborate closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Design Engineering to support design-for-manufacturing and change implementation
- Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, ownership, and continuous improvement
Required Skills and Experience
- Associate degree in Mechanical Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or equivalent hands-on experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an R&D, prototype, or manufacturing environment
- Strong hands-on experience building complex, precision mechanical and electromechanical assemblies
- Proficiency with machine shop equipment (mill, lathe, drill press, power tools, etc.)
- Experience operating and troubleshooting production equipment such as ovens, presses, and leak detection systems
- Demonstrated ability to perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting using structured approaches
- Ability to interpret BOMs, manufacturing drawings, electrical schematics, and engineering documentation
- Strong attention to detail with a safety-first mindset
- Willingness to support off-hours work as required for builds, troubleshooting, or qualification activities
Desired Skills and Experience
- Experience with vacuum systems and vacuum leak checking
- Hands-on experience with pneumatics, pumps, valves, or high-voltage electrical systems
- Proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams (engineering, quality, supply chain)
- Working knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles, tiered accountability, and continuous improvement tools
- Experience leading or supporting small technical projects or improvement initiatives
- Familiarity with MES systems, CAD tools, Microsoft Office, and basic data analysis
Base Salary: $35–$45/hour
