Design Technician III

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and assist in the creation of comprehensive civil engineering construction documents, ensuring alignment with project requirements, company standards, and regulatory guidelines
- Contribute to preliminary site planning, including layout design, parking, roadways, stormwater management, and utility coordination, applying knowledge of local and company standards
- Perform storm drainage calculations and develop stormwater management plans, ensuring compliance with local regulations and company standards
- Design and coordinate utility plans, including water distribution, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage, ensuring the integration of backflow preventers, meters, fire flow systems, and other critical components in line with local requirements
- Lead the development of site grading plans, perform mass grading, final grading, and earthwork calculations to ensure project feasibility and regulatory compliance
- Develop erosion control plans in accordance with the NC E&S manual, including designing sediment traps, basins, and channels, while ensuring the implementation of proper construction sequences
- Perform accurate quantity take-offs for material estimation and resource allocation, aiding in project budgeting and cost management
- Identify and resolve potential conflicts between utilities, storm drainage systems, and other infrastructure elements, ensuring seamless integration of design components
- Maintain communication with municipal staff, clients, and project stakeholders, addressing project requirements, updates, and changes throughout the design process
- Lead cross-departmental collaboration, coordinating with engineers and project teams to ensure project designs meet company and municipal standards, while mentoring junior design staff and sharing expertise
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills + Experience
- Diploma, associate degree, or certification in CAD technology, drafting, civil engineering technology, or a related field preferred
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a CAD Technician or similar role required
- Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar programs preferred
- Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, including grading and drainage preferred
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate, high-quality drawings
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with engineers and other departments
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to addressing design issues

- Must be able to carry, lift and push/pull up to 5 pounds frequently and up to 30 pounds occasionally.
