Lawyer - Employment Relations and Safety
Good people. Good work. Great opportunities.
McCullough Robertson is a commercially focused firm, working with high-calibre national and international clients. We work on big matters in small teams, approaching each day with dedication and professionalism.
We provide exceptional opportunities for our employees to perform, grow and succeed, through extensive training and career development. Our teams work together and support one another to achieve individual, team and firm-wide goals.
Backed by a national team of over 400 staff located in Brisbane, Sydney, and Canberra, McCullough Robertson is a big firm, without the attitude.
The Role
McCullough Robertson’s national Employment Relations and Safety practice is experiencing a dynamic period of growth, and as a result, we are looking to expand our talented team.
In this role, you will partner with both private and public sector clients on a broad spectrum of employment and industrial relations matters. You will offer strategic guidance and representation in compliance with federal and state workplace and industrial relations legislation. This position provides a unique chance to work alongside industry leaders, contributing to innovative solutions while fostering positive workplace outcomes for organisations navigating complex regulatory environments.
With the firm’s continued growth and commitment to excellence, this is an exciting opportunity for an individual looking to make a meaningful impact within the employment relations and safety landscape.
Experience
We are seeking a motivated and dedicated lawyer based in Brisbane with three years of post-qualification experience. You must have a strong background of supporting clients in front-end employment advice and document reviews, and back-end litigation in courts and tribunals. The successful candidate would have experience providing legal services to both government clients (federal, state and/or local government departments and authorities) and national-system employers, noting lawyers with experience only in federal or state industrial relations frameworks will be considered.
Additionally, you will possess the following key attributes:
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
- A focus on delivering outcomes for your clients;
- Confidence in building strong relationships with clients and team members;
- An ability to work well both autonomously and as a part of a close-knit team;
- The ability on a daily basis to work on multiple matters or tasks, with competing deadlines and priorities; and
- A genuine passion for building your career in the employment relations and safety space.
Benefits
At McCullough Robertson, we encourage a balanced work environment. Our teams enjoy having the opportunity to work in a supportive environment while having fun and achieving results.
We offer the following benefits for our employees:
- Dedicated Diversity committee with an innovative program focusing on all areas of diversity and inclusion;

- Mentoring and sponsorship opportunities as well as coaching and leadership support;
- Holistic Health and Wellbeing program including subsidised gym membership and active social and sporting committees; and
- In-house barista and end-of-trip facilities.
