The Team 

The Brisbane Employment Relations and Safety (ERS) team is renowned for our significant expertise in workplace relations, employment disputes and strategic planning, delivering front-end workplace relations advice, and successfully minimising or resolving employee claims. The team is comprised of ten lawyers who each work with all partners.  In supporting our clients, we also work closely with the Sydney ERS team, which is a similar size.

Our diverse client base ranges from multinational corporations to local small to medium sized businesses, as well as government departments and agencies. We get to know our clients’ business and understand their industry so that our advice is tailored, commercial, and practical.

The Role

McCullough Robertson’s ERS practice is experiencing an exciting phase of national growth, and we are looking for exceptional talent to join our expanding team in Brisbane. 

Working in this role, you will partner closely with both private and public sector clients on a wide range of employment and industrial relations matters. You will provide strategic advice and representation across all aspects of workplace and industrial relations law, assisting organisations navigate complex legislation and achieve strong, compliant outcomes.

You will form part of a team that is not only experienced but genuinely passionate about creating forward-thinking, practical solutions. Experience

We are looking for a driven and talented lawyer with four to seven years of post-admission experience. 

As the successful candidate, you will have a strong track record supporting clients in front-end employment advice and document reviews, and back-end litigation in courts and tribunals. Ideally, you will bring experience working with government clients (federal, state and/or local) as well as national-system employers. We will however welcome applications from lawyers experienced in either the federal or state industrial relations frameworks.

Additionally, you will possess the following key attributes:

  • Confidence in building meaningful relationships with clients and colleagues;
  • The ability to juggle competing matters with efficiency and professionalism;
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently when needed; and
  • A genuine passion for employment law and building a long-term career in this space
