What You’ll Do
We are looking for an experienced leader to own the reliability engineering program for distribution automation. This role will lead the reliability team, own the roadmap of reliability efforts, execute projects to drive improvements, and enhance the measurement of reliability and identification of top loss opportunities.
It’s an exciting time at McMaster-Carr as the next round of automation in our distribution centers becomes part of our day-to-day operations. Automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS), carton build and lid machines, and sorters are just some of the technologies that are in the scope of this role.
You’ll make an impact and grow your leadership skills through experiences like:
- Building a world-class reliability engineering team and cultivating a supportive community and culture of development to optimize automation performance and operational outcomes
- Designing maintenance and reliability ways of working that align with McMaster-Carr’s goals, strategies and operating principles
- Partnering with cross-functional teams to visualize trends and perform root cause analysis to design and execute hardware, controls, and software solutions for top reliability opportunities
- Collaborating with operational and maintenance leaders to execute projects across the distribution operation from receiving through shipping
- Analyzing and solving complex technical issues to deliver on reliability and uptime goals that are critical to serving customers
- Implementing reliability best practices throughout the engineering lifecycle, from ideation to design to acceptance to operation

Cash Compensation
Total cash compensation is generally around $232,000 to $308,000 and includes profit sharing based on company performance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial and systems, mechanical, electrical, or computer science engineering (or equivalent)
- 5+ years of professional experience in maintenance and engineering, including experience with AS/RS, conveyor systems, robotics and sorters. Knowledge of most of the hardware, controls, software, process design, analytics, and AI disciplines is preferred
- Experience in a fast-paced, high uptime, operational environment
- Proven leadership experience including managing teams and projects simultaneously
- Excellent communication skills and advanced project management skills
- Strong business and financial acumen paired with domain and technical expertise
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and roadmap, plan, and execute
