Job Description

Meade is seeking a strategic, technically accomplished, and highly communicative Associate Director of Mechanical Engineering to lead our mechanical engineering practice across mission-critical and large-scale infrastructure projects. This role will oversee the strategic direction, technical delivery, and operational performance of electrical engineering services, ensuring world-class power distribution, resiliency, and safety in all projects.

The Director will provide leadership over mechanical design operations, manage technical teams, and uphold the highest standards of quality, compliance, and innovation. The ideal candidate brings deep mechanical expertise in data centers and other mission-critical environments, coupled with strong leadership skills to mentor teams, collaborate across disciplines, and deliver trusted solutions for clients.

Job Duties

  • Set the vision, standards, and priorities for mechanical engineering services across a growing portfolio of mission-critical projects.
  • Manage engineering teams, project managers, and designers to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient mechanical systems on time and within budget.
  • Provide high-level review and approval of mechanical designs, calculations, specifications and QA/QC processes for HVAC, chilled water, piping, plumbing, fire protection, and mechanical controls.
  • Establish and enforce design standards, documentation protocols, and code-compliant engineering frameworks.
  • Partner with internal disciplines and external partners to ensure mechanical infrastructure strategies align with overall project goals.
  • Act as the executive-level point of contact for mechanical scope, building trusted relationships with clients, contractors, and facility owners.
  • Mentor and grow a team of mechanical engineers and designers, supporting recruitment, onboarding, and professional development.
  • Track and report performance metrics across design quality, timeliness, budgets, and client satisfaction.
  • Drive adoption of emerging technologies, resilient mechanical solutions, and sustainability practices for mission-critical infrastructure.
  • Maintain adherence to industry codes, standards, and safety protocols, including ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, local regulations, and client-specific requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 12+ years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering, with significant exposure to mission-critical, data center, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Master's preferred.
  • 5+ years in a leadership role with direct responsibility for teams, budgets, and strategic operations.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
  • Expertise with HVAC, chilled water, CRAC/CRAH systems, boilers, piping, fire protection, and mechanical controls.
  • Strong experience reviewing and stamping mechanical designs
  • Proven leadership in multidisciplinary, high-stakes project environments.
  • Excellent communication, client management, and executive-level presentation skills.
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, and related codes.
  • Experience driving process improvements or adopting emerging digital engineering tools.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite; working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, and mechanical design software required.

Compensation & Benefits:

This on-site position is based in Tempe, AZ. Compensation and benefits are subject to eligibility requirements and may vary based on location and applicable laws. The pay range for this position will be provided in accordance with applicable state and local laws. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, internal equity, geographic location, and business needs.
