Manager Corporate Accounting (12 Month Contract)
The Manager, Corporate Accounting will be the point of contact for the company on all things Accounting, including owning month end close, reviewing of journal entries and financial statements, maintaining detailed accounting records to ensure accuracy of financials, and writing technical accounting memos. In this role, you will have the opportunity to help Mejuri grow, meet its business objectives and work cross-functionally. We are looking for someone who is excited about process improvement and is passionate about being a trusted advisor to our teams.
Reporting to the VP, Corporate Controller, you will work alongside the accounting, AP, FP&A, eCommerce/Retail, supply chain, and marketing/creative operations teams to improve accuracy, reduce close timeline and create efficiencies in processes.
This role also involves significant cross-department work and communication. You are passionate about solving problems and are motivated by a fast paced environment.
What you'll do
Month-End Close:
- Oversee and manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial results
- Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure all financial data is captured accurately and in a timely manner
- Provide recommendations consistent with corporate accounting principles and procedures in full compliance with GAAP
Process Improvement and Ad-Hoc Projects
- Drive continuous refinements in our accounting processes with a focus on efficiency while driving improved visibility into key metrics
- Assist with and manage various ad-hoc projects as needed
- Develop and execute on initiatives that contribute to the objective of building out the accounting team technology stack, specifically ERP, Accounting Management, and other system implementations
- Partner cross-functionally with Commercial, Supply Chain, Data/Technology business unit leaders in a proactive and consultative manner to plan for new business initiatives and operational changes
Internal Controls:
- Design, implement, and maintain internal controls for key processes to support internal controls framework
- Evaluate and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal control documentation.
Financial Reporting:
- Act as liaison to the external auditors for relevant financial statement sections and other external service providers and own the successful completion of the year-end audit and other assurance engagements, as required
- Lead the preparation and review of internal and external financial statements in accordance with ASPE
- Ensure timely delivery of financial information to executive leadership and external stakeholders
Leadership & Collaboration:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals
- Foster cross-functional collaboration with FP&A, AP, Tax, Legal, and Operations
- Drive process improvements and system enhancements to increase efficiency and accuracy
Technical Accounting:
- Research and implement new accounting standards and pronouncements
- Provide technical accounting guidance on complex transactions
- Draft and maintain technical accounting memos and whitepapers
What you'll bring to the team
- CPA with 6+ years of progressive experience in full cycle and/or public accounting
- Excellent technical accounting and problem solving skills, and extensive experience in analyzing, interpreting GAAP, IFRS
- Proven track record of managing a team and implementing strategic changes that impact the business beyond the Finance function
- Experience in managing revenue reporting including manual and automated order to cash reconciliation processes, returns/warranties, discounts
- Experience structuring, hiring, managing, coaching, developing and training a team of different levels and working styles
- Experience elevating team members in identifying and providing opportunities for growth and development and creating a culture where team members are able to use their voice and provide input
Things we consider an asset: (Nice to haves)
- Experience in Big 4, eCommerce, retail, manufacturing or consumer packaged goods industries
- Experience implementing ERP/Accounting Management systems (NetSuite preferred)
- Experience with BI tools (Looker preferred)
Key Performance Indicators:
- Time to close
- Accuracy of accounting (material misstatements, control deficiencies, out of period adjustments)
- A minimum of three weeks vacation, plus personal days and three religious/cultural observance days.
