AI Software Developer In Test (SDET)

Tel Aviv

We are looking for AI Software Developer In Test (SDET) with a deep quality mindset who lives at the intersection of software quality and AI.This isn't a traditional automation role as you'll design and build AI agents and skills that serve both automated and manual QA workflows like autonomous failure investigation, test generation, exploratory testing assistance, triage, and suite maintenance. You'll also evolve the automation framework itself, with AI as your primary force multiplier.

You'll join a team that has already integrated multiple AI coding agents (Devin, Claude Code, Cursor) into daily workflows, and built custom AI skills for automated failure analysis.

Qualifications:

  • Over 5 years of experience in QA testing processes, including test planning and execution
  • More than 5 years of proven experience in automation testing
  • proven experience with TypeScript, JavaScript, Java, or Python
  • Proven experience with the Playwright or a comparable modern E2E framework
  • Experience building and maintaining large-scale test automation frameworks (not just writing tests)
  • Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants (Devin, Cursor, Copilot, Claude, or similar) beyond casual usage - you've shaped how they work on a codebase
  • Understanding of CI/CD systems (CircleCI, GitHub Actions, or equivalent)
  • Ability to write clear, structured technical documentation (you'll be writing instructions that AI agents follow)
  • Strong quality-focused mindset
  • Exceptional ability to understand cross-platform architectures and think from a user's perspective
  • API testing experience (REST, service clients, test data management)

Bonus points:

  • Experience with prompt engineering and LLM-driven automation
  • Background in manual QA - you understand the workflows, pain points, and judgment calls that manual testers make daily, and can translate those into AI-assisted processes
  • Familiarity with test management platforms (Allure TestOps, TestRail, or similar)
  • Experience building Slack bots, internal tools, or developer experience tooling
  • Understanding of serverless architectures (AWS Lambda)
  • Page Object Model architecture at scale

A day in the life and how you’ll make an impact:

AI Skills & Agent Design

  • Design, build, and maintain AI skills and agents for the entire quality domain, serving both automation engineers and manual QA teams
  • Build AI-powered workflows for manual QA: exploratory testing guidance, test plan generation, regression scope analysis, bug investigation assistance, smart test case prioritization
  • Author and iterate on agent configuration files and skill definitions that govern how AI agents interact with the codebase and quality processes
  • Build tooling that transforms test infrastructure data (Allure TestOps, CircleCI, Playwright traces) into AI-consumable formats
  • Integrate AI agents into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., auto-fix modes triggered on failures)
  • Evaluate and onboard new AI coding tools, defining prompt strategies and guardrails for each.

Test Automation Engineering

  • Develop and maintain E2E tests using TypeScript and Playwright across a monorepo with 12+ packages
  • Build and extend Page Object Models, entity factories, API service clients, and custom fixtures
  • Design test architecture for new partner integrations and product domains
  • Own CI/CD pipeline configuration (CircleCI) including parallel execution, sharding, and scheduled workflows
  • Build internal developer tools (Slack bots, Chrome extensions, CLI utilities) that improve team velocity

About the Engineering department:

The Engineering department is the backbone of Melio. We build, scale, and maintain the technical infrastructure that processes over $100B in annual payments for small businesses nationwide.

Following our acquisition by Xero, we're tackling an even more exciting challenge: integrating Melio's payment platform with Xero's accounting software to create a unified financial ecosystem. This means building robust, scalable systems that seamlessly connect two powerful platforms while maintaining the security and reliability that financial services demand.

Our Stack:

We're all-in on AWS Serverless—meaning fully managed infrastructure that lets us build and scale faster than ever. We use TypeScript and Python for consistency, combining relational and document databases, and deploy via SAM CLI built on CloudFormation. Serverless gives us the agility to innovate rapidly while maintaining enterprise-grade reliability.

As part of our engineering team, you'll work on problems that matter: real-time payment processing, fraud prevention, API integrations, data synchronization, and user experience optimization. You'll have the autonomy to make architectural decisions, the support of a world-class team, and the satisfaction of seeing your code impact millions of small businesses.

If you're ready to build systems that scale, solve hard problems, and help small businesses thrive, we want to talk to you.
