Head of Growth Marketing

Hybrid in Boston, MA

About Mel Robbins Media Group

Mel Robbins Media Group is an award-winning media company headquartered in Boston, MA — the team behind The Mel Robbins Podcast, the #1 most-followed show on Apple Podcasts, and The Let Them Theory, a cultural phenomenon with nearly 10 million copies sold. We create science-backed, life-changing content that reaches more than 40 million followers worldwide and partner with some of the most recognized consumer brands in the world. We are a company with genuine reach, a proven content engine, and a mission that resonates with people across industries and generations.

Your Mission

Grow our audience. Give them a reason to keep coming back.

Millions of people discover Mel every week. Your job is to make sure they listen to the next episode, discover the ones they've missed, subscribe, buy, and come back for more.

You'll own how we grow across podcast downloads, email and CRM, our website, SEO, paid media, and analytics.

You won't be creating the content. Our podcast, social, brand marketing, and video teams do that. Your job is to make sure the incredible content we're already producing reaches more people and drives results.

You'll lead 3–4 marketers and manage 3–4 agency partners. And you'll be hands-on yourself. We're looking for someone who can set the strategy, build the systems, and most importantly, has the expertise to roll up their sleeves and get it done.

Outcomes

Audit everything and set the roadmap.

  • Audit every channel, platform, tool, and agency we use today: what it costs, what it delivers, and what's missing.
  • Recommend what to keep, fix, replace, or stop, and explain why.
  • Deliver a 12-month roadmap with priorities, budget, and targets for each channel.

Outcome: Within 90 days, leadership has approved a clear roadmap for every growth channel.

Grow new episode downloads.

  • Own download growth for every new episode of The Mel Robbins Podcast. This is the number one metric you're measured on.
  • Build and execute a release plan for every episode across email, web, search, and paid.
  • Turn guest appearances into opportunities to reach new audiences and bring those listeners back.
  • Work with the podcast team on growth strategy before an episode drops, not after.

Outcome: Downloads per new episode go up month by month.

Grow back-catalog downloads.

  • Drive downloads of past episodes through search, email, recommendations, and paid.
  • Organize episodes around the real problems people are trying to solve, so the right content finds the right person.
  • Give every new listener a clear next episode to play.

Outcome: Back-catalog downloads go up quarter by quarter.

Grow, reengage, and retain our 2 million email subscribers.

  • Own the health and growth of our email lists: acquisition, engagement, and retention.
  • Build segmentation, lifecycle flows, and automation in HubSpot yourself.
  • Create campaigns that turn podcast listeners, readers, and social followers into email subscribers.
  • Bring inactive subscribers back and reengaged.
  • Optimize our twice-weekly podcast newsletter and monthly "Things I Love" newsletter to increase engagement, drive downloads and sales, and create advertising opportunities.
  • Build email funnels and campaigns that support every product and major launch.

Outcome: Our list keeps growing, engagement improves, and unsubscribes decline.

Make the website work harder and convert.

  • Optimize every page on our website to drive to the right action that matters: listen, subscribe, and buy through our retail partners.
  • Own website performance, including UX, speed, conversion, and testing.
  • Give every page a clear purpose and make it easy for visitors to take the next step: subscribe, listen, or buy.
  • Build an SEO and AEO strategy so people discover Mel, our content, and our products when they're searching for answers.
  • Work with agencies to build new pages and digital properties. They may execute the work, but you own the results.

Outcome: More visitors become listeners, subscribers, and customers, and organic search traffic grows.

Make paid media worth our money.

  • Own paid strategy and budgets across Google (search, display, YouTube) and Meta.
  • Work with our agency to build, launch, test, and optimize campaigns.
  • Lead paid media for major launches as part of the broader campaign strategy led by the Head of Brand & Partnerships.
  • Use paid media to drive podcast downloads, book sales, and other key marketing goals on an ongoing basis.

Outcome: Every campaign has a clear target before launch, and we know what our investment delivered.

Measure what matters.

  • Build one clear view of growth across podcast analytics, GA4, HubSpot, and paid media.
  • Test consistently, learn quickly, and stop spending time and money on what isn't working.
  • Keep our audience data accurate, organized, and compliant with privacy requirements.

Outcome: Leadership gets one weekly report that tells us what's working, what isn't, and where we're growing on each of your owned channels.

Build the team and the agency bench.

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of 3–4 marketers.
  • Evaluate our current agency partners and bring in new ones where we need stronger expertise.
  • Set clear expectations, give strong briefs, and hold every partner accountable for results.

Outcome: The team and our agencies consistently hit their targets without needing you involved in every decision.

Competencies

  • Proven audience grower. You've grown a podcast, newsletter, or media audience, and you have the numbers to prove it.
  • Hands-on operator. You have 6–8+ years in growth or digital marketing. You've personally managed and executed paid search, paid social, email, SEO, and web. You don't just oversee the people doing the work.
  • You understand podcast growth. You know how listeners discover shows, what makes them subscribe, and how to grow through platform discovery, charts, cross-promotion, and back-catalog listening.
  • CRM and lifecycle expert. You've built programs that increased engagement, retention, and revenue. Not just sent newsletters.
  • Strong commercial instincts. You've owned revenue or conversion targets and understand what drives results.
  • Experienced agency manager. You know how to brief agencies, challenge their thinking, evaluate their work, and hold them accountable.
  • Great people leader. You've managed a small team, developed strong talent, and helped people do the best work of their careers.
  • Tools. HubSpot, WordPress, Google Ads, GA4, Meta Ads Manager, SEO tools, and Monday.com. Be ready to show us what you've personally done with them.
  • Bonus: Experience in media, publishing, podcasting, or a personality-led business.

What Success Looks Like

Within 6 months

  • You've completed the audit, and your 12-month roadmap is approved.
  • Every new episode has a growth plan, and you can show us what's working.
  • We have one weekly report covering podcast, email, web, and paid performance.
  • Every agency has clear targets, and we've brought in stronger partners where needed.
  • At least one new back-catalog growth program is live.
  • You've found smart ways to put years of existing episodes, speeches, books, and video content to work, so growing the business doesn't require more of Mel's time.

Within 12 months

  • New-episode and back-catalog downloads are growing month over month.
  • Our email list is bigger, healthier, and more engaged.
  • Paid campaigns are delivering against targets, and our cost per acquisition is coming down.
  • You've built a strong team that can run the weekly growth process without you needing to make every decision.

You'll Thrive Here If

  • You get excited about taking something that's underperforming and figuring out how to make it great.
  • You know there's a goldmine in the content we've already created, and you can't wait to put it to work.
  • You understand we're not a traditional e-commerce company. Most of what we create is free. We care about earning trust, helping people, and building an audience that wants to keep coming back.
  • You'd rather build a system that grows every episode than celebrate one campaign that had a big week.
  • You're willing to get your hands dirty. You don't ask someone else to do work you don't understand yourself.
  • You care more about what the data says than being right.
  • You want to be in the room, especially during production weeks, because you know that's where some of the best ideas happen.
