VP of Design

We're seeking a visionary VP of Design to lead our team of 40+ design practitioners into our next chapter of growth. This leader will shape how modern businesses experience banking, combining strategic thinking with an unwavering commitment to craft excellence.

In this role, you’ll balance your time across:
Strategic Leadership
- Define and execute Mercury's design vision at the executive level, ensuring design thinking drives key business decisions
- Build frameworks that elevate quality across all customer touch points
- Transform complex banking workflows into elegant, intuitive experiences
- Create systems and processes that enable teams to build cohesive products at scale
Craft & Innovation
- Drive product strategy through deep understanding of customer needs and industry complexities
- Champion design excellence across product, brand, and systems
- Establish processes that encourage innovation while maintaining quality
- Balance vision with execution, knowing when to dive deep into the details
Team & Culture
- Scale a thoughtful, collaborative design organization across product design, brand, research, content, and operations
- Foster a culture that values craft, encourages experimentation, and celebrates quality
- Develop the next generation of design leaders through mentorship and growth opportunities
- Build bridges across functions to ensure design continues to have its influential voice in company decisions
We're looking for someone who:
- Sees design as a strategic driver of business success
- Has experience scaling design organizations beyond 60 people
- Has managed and developed leaders across design disciplines such as product design, brand design, user research, and content strategy
- Has successfully led through periods of high growth and transformation
- Has a sophisticated eye for quality and can articulate what makes great design
- Stays connected to craft while leading at scale
- Knows how to balance systematic thinking with creative exploration
- Is energized by complex problem spaces
The total rewards package at Mercury includes base salary, equity (stock options), and benefits.
Our salary and equity ranges are highly competitive within the SaaS and fintech industry and are updated regularly using the most reliable compensation survey data for our industry. New hire offers are made based on a candidate’s experience, expertise, geographic location, and internal pay equity relative to peers.
Our target new hire base salary ranges for this role are the following:
- US employees (any location): $304,000 - $380,000
- Canadian employees (any location): CAD 276,600 - 345,800
