Senior Content Designer

San Francisco, CA, New York, NY, Portland, OR, or Remote within Canada or United States

Dolphins are incredibly smart. One of their most fascinating traits is one we don’t fully understand: they can produce a clicking sound (for echolocation and problem-solving, such as finding fish) and a whistle (to communicate with their pod) simultaneously. In other words, they can solve complex individual tasks while staying deeply connected to the group.

We’re not hiring a dolphin, but we are looking for someone with the same knack for juggling two things at once: a content designer/writer who can write sharp, helpful, and on-brand content for our banking* product and zoom out to shape the systems, guidelines, and strategies that help a whole team communicate better. While scientists may not know precisely how dolphins do two things at once, it’s not a secret how you can: it’s hard-won experience, empathy, and a knack for balancing micro details with macro strategy.

Your impact

You won’t just take direction and churn out words. You’ll play a central role in shaping how Mercury communicates inside our product. You’ll work across design, product, engineering, and marketing to bring coherence, clarity, and personality to everything we ship.

What you’ll do:

  • Build deep empathy for our customers and translate it into clear, helpful product content.
  • Partner with product teams to write everything from error messages to onboarding flows to system templates.
  • Extend brand values into the product experience with persuasive, human-centered copy.
  • Create and socialize guidelines for style, mechanics, shared language, and system-wide voice consistency; define and evolve the architecture of reusable content components; establish principles for how we utilize channels (in-app, email, notifications, etc.) and their cadence.
  • Collaborate with research and design to test and refine messaging.
  • Support major initiatives by partnering with product designers and PMMs to help customers understand new developments.

What we’re looking for:

  • 5-7 years of experience in Content Design or Product Writing with experience balancing writing craft and system thinking.
  • Someone who moves comfortably between detail-level execution and team-wide strategy.
  • Strong communication skills: able to advocate for voice, consistency, and clarity across disciplines.
  • A proactive partner who brings ideas—not just execution—to the table.
  • Curiosity, empathy, and a willingness to experiment.
  • FinTech experience is a plus.

To apply, please complete your application, and submit a cover letter along with your portfolio, website, or other samples of your work. Give us an idea of how you show up and tell data-driven stories in the world. We will not consider applications without a cover letter and work samples.
