Senior Product Designer - Accounting Systems
In the early 1900s, Maria Montessori redesigned education by creating environments that guided learners toward independence. Instead of overwhelming people with instruction, she built structured systems that supported progress through clarity, momentum, and gradual mastery.
At Mercury, we’re exploring how intelligent systems can bring that same sense of structure and confidence to complex financial workflows.
We’re hiring a Senior Product Designer to help define and design a next-generation AI-powered experience within Mercury’s accounting ecosystem. This is a foundational role focused on turning sophisticated automation and domain logic into experiences that feel intuitive, reliable, and empowering.
*Mercury is a fintech company, not an FDIC-insured bank. Banking services provided through Choice Financial Group and Column N.A., Members FDIC.
What you’ll do
- Shape how AI-powered capabilities show up across complex financial workflows
- Translate emerging technical capabilities into intuitive, human-centered experiences
- Design systems that balance automation, transparency, and user control
- Simplify technical and regulatory complexity into understandable workflows
- Anticipate edge cases, failure states, and operational risks in high-stakes domains
- Create scalable interaction patterns and escalation models for AI-assisted experiences
- Prototype new interaction models and design detailed, high-quality product experiences
- Partner closely with engineering, product, research, and data teams to ship thoughtful outcomes
What we're looking for
- 6+ years of experience leading complex, end-to-end product design initiatives
- Thrive in ambiguity and enjoy shaping strategy and direction, not just executing requirements
- Think in systems and workflows, not just individual screens
- Have experience designing fintech, AI-powered, data-heavy, or workflow-driven products
- Balance automation with transparency, trust, and user understanding
- Prototype fluidly to explore both interaction logic and product craft
- Care deeply about quality, correctness, and usability in high-stakes domains
- Bring strong product judgment, communication skills, and ownership to your work
