The Role
Mesa is looking for a BSA Officer to lead our Bank Secrecy Act and Anti-Money Laundering (BSA/AML) compliance program. You’ll be responsible for ensuring that Mesa meets all applicable regulatory obligations, working closely with our partners, banking institutions, and internal stakeholders. This is a critical role in building a trusted financial ecosystem for homeowners. This position will require a strategic leader with experience contributing at a hyper growth startup.
How you’ll make an impact
Compliance Management
- Serve as the designated BSA Officer for Mesa, responsible for overseeing all aspects of the BSA/AML and sanctions compliance programs
- Develop and maintain AML and sanctions policies, procedures, and risk assessments
- Lead the design and continuous improvement of transaction monitoring, customer due diligence (CDD), enhanced due diligence (EDD), and suspicious activity reporting (SAR) programs
- Manage regulatory reporting processes, including SAR filings and CTRs, in coordination with banking partners and/or vendors
- Oversee AML system vendors and tooling, including tuning, testing, and audit readiness
- Lead training, governance, and internal awareness of BSA/AML obligations across teams
- Collaborate with Product, Operations, Legal, and Risk to ensure compliance is embedded in our systems and processes from the ground up
- Serve as point of contact for regulatory audits, exams, and partner diligence reviews
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in financial services compliance, including 3+ years in a BSA Officer or senior AML role
- Expertise in U.S. BSA/AML regulations, OFAC sanctions, FinCEN requirements, and industry best practices
- Proven ability to operationalize regulatory requirements into scalable and efficient programs
- Experience with AML transaction monitoring systems (e.g., Sardine, Alloy, Unit21, Actimize, etc.)
- Strong collaboration and communication skills across technical and non-technical teams
- Strong understanding of FFIEC BSA/AML Examination Manual requirements
- CAMS certification (or equivalent) strongly preferred
- Experience at a fintech, neobank, or consumer credit issuer
- Familiarity with secured or unsecured credit card program structures
- Regulatory exam and audit management experience
- Knowledge of fraud/risk adjacent domains
