Group Finance Director

Hong Kong; Singapore
Group Finance Director
Location: Hong Kong or Singapore
Reports to: Group Chief Operating Officer
Department: Finance
Overview
  • Metabit is seeking a Group Finance Director to lead the firm’s global finance function and help build a world-class quantitative hedge fund. Reporting to the Group COO, this role will work closely with executive leadership, the General Counsel, and other senior stakeholders on the planning and execution of a robust global corporate and fund structure, while building a best-in-class finance platform across the group.
  • The Finance Director will have responsibility for the full Finance function, including Corporate Accounting, Fund Accounting, Taxation, Treasury, and Procurement across the group’s holding company, employment companies, service companies, and core operating entities. The role is intended for a senior, hands-on finance leader who combines strategic judgment with operational execution in a complex, multi-entity investment platform.
Key Responsibilities
  • Partner closely with the COO and the firm’s executive leadership to help scale and institutionalise a world-class quantitative hedge fund platform, with a focus on finance, control, and operating robustness.
  • Work closely with the COO and General Counsel on the design, implementation, and ongoing refinement of the group’s global corporate, fund, and operating structure, including management entities, regulated operating entities, employment companies, and service companies.
  • Build, lead, and continuously enhance the Group Finance function, covering corporate accounting, fund accounting, taxation, treasury, procurement, budgeting, financial reporting, audit, and finance operations.
  • Establish institutional-grade financial controls, policies, governance standards, and reporting frameworks across the group’s management companies, regulated entities, service companies, and fund structures.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across relevant entities, including management reporting, consolidated reporting, statutory reporting, and executive or board reporting packs.
  • Lead the finance workstream for new entity formation, fund launches, office expansion, and broader strategic build-out, in coordination with the COO, GC, and external advisors.
  • Own relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, fund administrators, banking partners, and other core finance and control service providers.
  • Oversee all fund finance matters, including NAV oversight, capital activity, management and incentive fee flows, expense allocations, investor reporting support, and administrator oversight.
  • Lead the group’s tax and transfer pricing agenda, including cross-border structuring support, tax risk management, and defensible recharge models across entities and jurisdictions.
  • Build budgeting, forecasting, and business planning processes that support both day-to-day financial management and longer-term strategic decision-making by the COO and executive leadership.
  • Work closely with Treasury department to manage the firm’s capital, liquidity, cash and banking needs.
  • Drive finance systems, process improvement, automation, and data quality initiatives to support a scalable, institutional-quality operating platform.
  • Partner with the COO and other senior leaders on vendor management and procurement discipline, including financial evaluation, budgeting impact, and ongoing cost governance.
  • Recruit, lead, and develop a high-calibre finance team over time, while building an effective ecosystem of external advisors and service providers appropriate for the firm’s stage of growth.
Candidate Profile
  • The ideal candidate is a senior finance executive with deep experience across capital markets and alternative investments, strong technical grounding, and a proven track record of building or upgrading finance infrastructure in complex, multi-entity environments. This person combines strategic judgment with a hands-on approach, is comfortable in fast-moving trading or hedge fund settings, and can partner closely with a COO and Founders on both structure and execution.
  • Practical experience with China-related operating models and cross-border structuring would be a strong advantage, particularly where onshore-offshore coordination creates finance, tax, or governance complexity.
Preferred Experience
  • 15–20 years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including significant time in senior leadership roles such as CFO, Finance Director, Controller, or equivalent.
  • Prior experience at large, reputable hedge funds, multi-manager platforms, proprietary trading groups, or similar institutions with institutional-grade controls and governance.
  • Demonstrated responsibility for both management company and fund-level finance, including corporate accounting, fund accounting, reporting, tax, and treasury.
  • Experience working with multi-jurisdiction structures, including offshore holding companies, regulated entities, employment companies, service companies, master-feeder funds, and cross-border tax and regulatory considerations.
  • Experience operating in Asia-based structures and cross-border environments would be highly relevant.
Qualifications
  • Qualified accountant (e.g. CPA, CA, ACCA) strongly preferred; an additional CFA or MBA in Finance would be an advantage.
  • Strong technical command of accounting standards, whether IFRS or US GAAP, as well as hedge fund and fund accounting conventions and tax concepts relevant to trading and investment structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement finance processes, systems, and controls suitable for a scaling, institutional investment firm.
Core Competencies and Attributes
  • Commercial, owner-mindset approach with the ability to translate financial insight into clear recommendations for the COO and senior leadership.
  • Strong relationship-management skills and credibility with Founders, traders or portfolio managers, investors, auditors, administrators, banks, regulators, and external advisors.
  • High integrity, sound judgment, and a strong control orientation, with a track record of clean audits, timely reporting, and disciplined governance.
  • Comfortable operating both strategically and tactically, with the ability to dive into detail when necessary while keeping sight of the broader platform and long-term objectives.
  • Proven ability to recruit, develop, and lead finance teams, and to upgrade talent and external advisor benches as the platform scales.
