Global Network Engineer
Hong Kong; New York, New York, United States; Singapore
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer specializing in quantitative trading network architectures and data center engineering. In this role, you will design, build, and optimize worldwide top tier grade, highly reliable network and server infrastructure for a high frequency/quantitative trading environment. You will lead key colocation build-out, migration and decoupling projects, deploy hardware-timestamped packet capture solutions, and build precise performance monitoring systems to deliver a unified, transparent data observability standard across our trading topology. English oral communication skill is fundamental requirement.
Key Responsibilities
-
Infrastructure Design & Architecture: Design and deploy high-reliability, full-stack network and server infrastructure solutions tailored for quantitative trading operations.
-
Project Leadership: Lead data center migrations, facilitate business domain architecture decoupling, and execute end-to-end performance tuning projects.
-
Observability & Performance Monitoring: Build network monitoring, anomaly alerting, and rapid troubleshooting systems. Establish a unified, hardware-timestamp base network capture across complex trading environments.
-
Exchange Colocation & Connectivity: Oversee exchange colocation (proximity hosting) deployments, manage dedicated point-to-point leased lines, and optimize multicast market data distribution paths.
Qualifications & Technical Requirements
Education & Background
-
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM discipline.
-
3+ years of hands-on data center network engineering experience, ideally within quantitative funds, proprietary trading firms, exchanges, or financial market access vendors.
Network Architecture & Protocol Mastery
-
Protocol Deep Dive: In-depth understanding of the TCP/IP stack, with precise knowledge of packet/frame structures and state mechanics for Ethernet, IP, TCP, UDP, ICMP, ARP, and IGMP.
-
Core Routing & Switching: Expert knowledge of enterprise/datacenter network architecture and routing protocols, specifically BGP, OSPF, and PIM.
-
Multicast Expertise: Extensive hands-on experience with multicast routing (PIM-SM/SSM, IGMP) and high-throughput multicast market data distribution networks.
Hardware Time-stamping Network Capture
-
Proven experience deploying hardware time-stamping network packet capture (PCAP) infrastructure (e.g., MetaWatch, or dedicated tap aggregators).
-
Advanced capability in PCAP analysis, microburst identification, nanosecond/microsecond network jitter detection, and end-to-end latency profiling.
Network Automation & Monitoring
-
Automation: Proficient in Python to develop network automation scripts for batch configuration deployment, state validation, and network device management.
-
Monitoring Stack: Familiarity with SNMP and monitoring/logging platforms, including Zabbix, Prometheus, and Grafana.
Financial Domain & Colocation Engineering
-
Exchange Ecosystem: Direct experience with exchange dedicated line (cross-connects/leased circuits) provisioning and exchange colocation (proximity hosting) deployments.
-
Market Protocols: Sound understanding of market data streams, financial messaging protocols (e.g., FIX, native binary protocols), and colocation rack/cabling/power logistics.
Professional Capabilities
-
Exceptional organizational and project management skills with extreme attention to technical details.
-
Clear, professional, and effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
