Senior DevOps Engineer
Method is a global design and engineering consultancy founded in 1999. We believe that innovation should be meaningful, beautiful and human. We craft practical, powerful digital experiences that improve lives and transform businesses. Our teams [based in New York, Charlotte, Atlanta, London, Bengaluru, and remote] work with a wide range of organizations in many industries, including Healthcare, Financial Services, Retail, Automotive, Aviation, and Professional Services.
Method is part of GlobalLogic, a digital product engineering company. GlobalLogic integrates experience design and complex engineering to help our clients imagine what’s possible and accelerate their transition into tomorrow’s digital businesses. GlobalLogic is a Hitachi Group Company.
The Method Cloud Engineering practice works with clients to help them deliver value more reliably, rapidly, and securely. We are vendor and technology agnostic, though we focus primarily on helping clients migrate to Kubernetes-based delivery models, serverless architectures, automated CI/CD, and monitoring of their systems. We care deeply about building out sustainable processes that can be 100% owned and operated by our clients once we’re gone. We accomplish this by combining mentorship, best in class technology, and a strong sense of developer empathy. As a DevOps engineer, we also understand that while our clients typically come to us for our technical expertise, we must also be prepared to approach organizational and cultural problems in the software delivery lifecycle.
This is a client-facing, team-leading opportunity. We are looking for an experienced engineer who has deepened and diversified their skillset with DevOps disciplines, or, moved to DevOps entirely, with experience across multiple technologies and platforms, including mobile build processes and delivery. Your role will involve a diversified blend of leadership that will include contributing as a programmer, managing infrastructure, and mentoring others. Scripting, automation, security, and creating environments that hum and are self-healing should be strong motivators for you. Containers, Cloud, and some coding experience are a must.
We generally operate with small teams working closely together on a wide variety of complex and interesting projects. Think Postgres optimization, mobile UI with React, offline-enabled responsive web applications to name a few. Our web stacks today include React, Vue.js, Angular, Rails / Sinatra, Node.js, .NET and we even have system-level languages like C/C++ and Go in production. We strongly believe in identifying underlying patterns and frameworks, and determining the best solution for the problem.
Infrequent, but required, travel is possible.
Qualifications:
You will succeed in this role if you:
- Have at least 3 years of experience with Cloud Providers (AWS, Azure or GCP), with Azure being a must
- Worked with Azure cloud environments to manage React applications and .NET API via Azure functions
- Setting up and configuring CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, Github Actions
- Understand container technology, like Docker, and the growing ecosystem
- Have experience with build and delivery processes for mobile and/or web applications
- Are always looking for ways to automate
- Can explain the advantages of containers (and could come up with some disadvantages)
- Are interested in improving the software delivery lifecycle using frameworks like Kubernetes and Terraform
- Are comfortable working in polyglot environments (at some point you’ll need to debug code written in Java, Nodejs, python, groovy, or Golang)
- Understand the benefits of static code analysis and open-source scanning
- Are ready to help inform “build vs. buy” decisions
- Could field questions on topics like “DevOps,” “Microservices,” “Continuous Delivery,“ or “Serverless”
- Understand RBAC and the principles of least privilege
- Are familiar with both NoSQL (Mongo, Redis) and RDBM (Postgres, MySQL, SQL Server) systems
- Understand SLIs, SLOs, and Error Budgets and have to apply the four golden signals to them
- Are comfortable challenging the status quo and thinking outside the box
- Have experience with or the desire to lead others
- Work well with others
- Love the journey as much as the destination
- Enjoy working in and learning to use a wide variety of technologies and languages
