Senior Data & Analytics Engineer

San Diego, CA

With over 30 years of experience in the acquisition, development, rehabilitation, and management of apartment communities across the Western United States, we are a trusted partner in the real estate investment and property management industry. At MG Properties, we focus on enriching lives – physically in our community buildings, philanthropically through giving back to our local communities, and through development and growth of our employees.

About the Role

MG Properties is seeking a Senior Data & Analytics Engineer to lead the development and long-term ownership of our enterprise data and analytics platform. This senior individual contributor will manage everything downstream of data delivery, including the Microsoft Fabric environment, lakehouse, semantic models, reporting, governance, access controls, and AI-enabled analytics.

This is an opportunity for an experienced data and analytics professional to build a modern, governed platform that transforms how teams access information, make decisions, and use data across the organization.

This position is primarily onsite, with the potential for a hybrid work schedule based on business needs.

What You’ll Do

  • Own and administer the Microsoft Fabric environment, including lakehouses, OneLake storage, workspaces, SQL Analytics endpoints, capacity, performance, refresh operations, and access controls.
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable semantic models, Power BI reports, and dashboards for finance, investor relations, investments, and operations.
  • Lead the migration of existing Yardi-native Power BI reporting to the new Microsoft Fabric platform.
  • Replace manual, Excel-driven reporting with governed and scalable solutions.
  • Establish consistent definitions, reporting standards, and trusted data sources across the organization.
  • Partner with department leaders to understand business needs and translate them into a prioritized analytics roadmap.
  • Establish governance standards for data access, row-level security, workspace administration, report lifecycles, lineage, and content certification.
  • Build AI-enabled analytics, natural-language querying, and data agents in partnership with the Director of IT.
  • Evaluate and implement Microsoft Copilot capabilities and custom agents where they provide meaningful business value.
  • Create documentation, guides, and training to support business users and responsible self-service analytics.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for data and AI initiatives across departments.
  • Expand the platform over time to incorporate SharePoint, operational systems, and other data sources.

What You’ll Bring

  • Eight or more years of experience in data, analytics, or business intelligence, with progressively increasing responsibility and direct ownership of an enterprise platform.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, including lakehouses, OneLake, semantic models, SQL Analytics endpoints, and Direct Lake mode.
  • Advanced Power BI experience, including semantic model development, workspace and tenant governance, row-level security, and enterprise dashboard delivery.
  • Experience administering capacity and environments, including utilization monitoring, refresh management, access control, performance troubleshooting, and workspace lifecycles.
  • Proficiency in SQL, DAX, and Power Query.
  • Demonstrated experience replacing manual, Excel-based reporting with governed solutions that users successfully adopted.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior stakeholders and translate business needs into clear technical solutions.
  • Comfort independently owning a platform, establishing standards, and making architectural decisions.
  • Strong judgment regarding when to build internally, involve an external partner, or recommend an alternative approach.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft certifications in data, analytics, or the Power Platform.
  • Knowledge of ELT concepts and medallion lakehouse architecture.
  • Experience with Power Apps and Power Automate.
  • Experience building AI-enabled or natural-language querying capabilities over a data platform.
  • Background in real estate, property management, or another operations-focused industry.
  • Experience with Yardi Voyager or a comparable property management platform.
  • Experience mentoring others or expanding analytics capabilities across an organization.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 07/31/2029

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
