Job Summary
The Aerospace Vehicle Technician will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks in support of final spacecraft integration, Multi-Layer Insulation (MLI) installations, and testing. The ideal candidate will work from released work instructions to support assembly, testing, and launch operations of space vehicles. This role may require flexibility to work either first or second shift, depending on business needs.
This position's internal job code is AEROTECH. We are currently hiring for Grade 24.
Responsibilities
- Work from preliminary design drawings, sketches, blueprints, schematics, and both verbal and written instructions to determine the most appropriate methods for integrating designs and meeting production and laboratory requirements.
- Perform assembly and integration tasks to precise tolerances, using expertise to select the most effective methods for meeting engineering specifications.
- Operate specialized equipment during spacecraft assembly, such as hydraulic test consoles, cooling system test consoles, alignment fixtures, and installation fixtures.
- Determine the sequence of operations and install components in space vehicles before testing, including performing complete system leak and pressure checks, as well as alignment checks of control surfaces.
- Handle fragile multi-layer insulation (MLI) films and materials with care during installation onto test and flight articles.
- Support the installation of MLI and SLI (Solid-Layer Insulation) on spacecraft, ensuring all procedures meet required specifications.
- Assist engineers and research staff in identifying improved procedures and perform assigned duties at specific test stations. Record and analyze test data, generating reports, charts, and graphs.
- Acquire necessary certifications and perform incidental related duties and rework as needed, all with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of applicable materials and process specifications.
- Provide instruction, guidance, and support to colleagues in the same or other related classifications.
- Apply comprehensive knowledge of mechanical principles to perform all tasks.
- Support range operations, including tests, integration, and hardware moves.
- Operate computer-controlled equipment, including heated tools, ovens, positioners, alignment systems, lift equipment, cranes, and hand and power tools.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in mechanical assembly for high-reliability products (preferably aerospace products).
- Proven experience in building and terminating wiring harnesses to a high standard for racks and boxes.
- At least 1 year of experience working with MLI/thermal blankets.
- Experience using a variety of hand tools, including scalpels, scissors, hollow punches, etc.
- Skilled in interpreting mechanical drawings, schematics, and harness wiring diagrams, as well as internal and external specifications.
- Proficient in using inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, digital multimeters (DMM), and depth gauges.
- Experience with assembly tooling and/or composites fabrication and assembly.
- Proficient in using various hand and power tools.
- Experience with mixing epoxy materials.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of Integration experience
- Certification to J-STD-001 space, NASA.STD.8739.4
- Industry certification and/or Trade School training
- Demonstrated exceptional attention to detail
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Experience working in a clean room environment
- Ability to generate discrepancy reports as they occur in areas of influence
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Open to travel
- Active Security Clearance
Summary Pay-Range
- Grade 24: $28.56/hr - $45.72/hr
