Senior Software Engineer, Developer Platform — Startup Experience Preferred

Washington, DC - Hybrid

Mindgrub Talent is looking for a highly experienced Senior Software Engineer with Platform experience to join a fast-growing, well-funded technology company entering a major stage of expansion. The engineering team is still lean, giving individual engineers significant influence as the organization scales.

They are looking for a senior, hands-on software engineer to build and improve the internal platforms, tooling, infrastructure, and workflows that help engineers develop and ship software efficiently.

This is not a traditional DevOps support role. The ideal candidate is a strong software engineer who enjoys building tools and platforms for other engineers.

What You’ll Work On

  • Build and improve internal developer platforms, tooling, and automation.

  • Enhance CI/CD and software delivery workflows.

  • Improve development, testing, deployment, and production processes.

  • Introduce modern tooling, including AI-assisted development workflows.

  • Partner across software, infrastructure, security, and engineering leadership.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship while remaining hands-on.

What They’re Looking For

  • Strong software engineering background at the Senior, Staff, or Lead level.

  • Experience building production-grade platforms, developer tools, or engineering infrastructure.

  • Background with CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, internal platforms, build systems, deployment tooling, or developer productivity.

  • Ability to own technical initiatives from design through implementation.

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals rather than primarily systems administration experience.

  • Comfortable working with ambiguity, moving quickly, and taking significant ownership.

Startup Experience Strongly Preferred

Experience in a startup, high-growth technology company, or similarly fast-moving environment is strongly preferred.

Ideal candidates have experience:

  • Building systems and processes from the ground up.

  • Working across engineering boundaries.

  • Making pragmatic architectural decisions with limited resources.

  • Creating tooling that helps engineering teams scale.

  • Operating with high ownership and limited structure.

Hard skills

Strong security sense (CI/CD risk, backend systems security)

Fluency in a modern backend language (Go, Python, TypeScript, Rust)

Experience building scalable infrastructure and backend platforms (platform fundamentals, network protocols, repository scaling)

Why This Opportunity

You’ll join at an important growth stage and have the opportunity to shape the engineering environment rather than simply maintain an established platform. The systems you build will directly influence how the engineering organization scales.

Compensation

  • Suggested Range $225,000 - $275,000 USD
  • Base compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors including skills, education, certifications, geographic location, and overall experience for the role

Inclusivity without exception | At Mindgrub Talent we value and encourage mutual respect and acceptance. We know we all have something to contribute. We work every day to ensure all are welcome, and that we treat all people with fairness and dignity.
