As a Senior Financial Accountant, you will play a key role in ensuring robust financial operations, compliance, and reporting accuracy. This role combines hands-on accounting with cross-functional collaboration, supporting both local statutory obligations and group-level reporting requirements. You will oversee general ledger, AP/AR, tax filings, payroll coordination, and month-end close, while also partnering with JAPAC and UK central finance teams to align processes and deliver financial insights for strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Operations Setup & Transition
- Collaborate with the consulting firm to document current processes, identify improvement opportunities, and progressively transition them in‑house.
- Implement scalable finance workflows and systems for billing, expense management, payroll, and insurance administration.
- Accounting & Reporting
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including AP/AR, expense management, and reconciliations.
- Lead month-end and year-end close activities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting under JGAAP and IFRS.
- Prepare management accounts, variance analyses, and financial statements for local and regional review.
- Compliance & Tax Oversight
- Ensure compliance with Japanese statutory requirements (National Tax Agency filings, social security, consumption tax, withholding tax).
- Liaise with external tax advisors and auditors on statutory filings, tax returns, and audit requirements.
- Monitor updates to accounting/tax regulations and advise management on implications.
- Cross-Regional Collaboration
- Coordinate with JAPAC regional finance and UK central finance teams to align reporting standards, consolidation requirements, and system integration.
- Support cross-border projects such as budgeting, forecasting, and group audit requests.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with HR to ensure payroll accuracy, benefits administration, and labor compliance.
- Work with commercial and operations teams to ensure proper revenue recognition, client billing, and expense allocation.
- Collaborate with Legal and Compliance on contracts, regulatory issues, and risk management.
- Provide financial insights to support business leaders in decision-making and Japan market growth.
- Process Improvement & Controls
- Develop and document finance procedures to strengthen internal controls and efficiency.
- Identify opportunities for automation and process optimization.
- Contribute to the implementation of ERP or financial systems upgrades.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business (CPA, USCPA, or equivalent qualification strongly preferred).
- Experience: 5–7 years in accounting or finance, with solid experience in Japan statutory compliance and multinational reporting.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in ERP/accounting systems, strong MS Excel skills, knowledge of JGAAP and IFRS.
- Language Skills: Fluent in English required for cross-border communication. ● Stakeholder & Project Management Experience - transitioning operations in-house; cross-team and cross-region collaboration
