
Senior Director, IT – Commercial, Medical Affairs, Patient Services

POSITION SUMMARY
Lead the technology strategy, development, and operational support for Commercial, Patient Services, and Medical Affairs functions. This role will serve as a key IT business partner, ensuring that enterprise applications and platforms effectively support the business objectives of these functions in a dynamic and growing biopharmaceutical environment.
The ideal candidate brings a strong blend of domain knowledge in biopharma, expertise in enterprise applications (e.g., Veeva, Salesforce, CRM, data integration), and leadership capabilities to drive innovation, scalability, and operational excellence across core business platforms.
JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership
- Serve as the IT thought partner to Commercial, Patient Services, and Medical Affairs leaders.
- Lead the development and execution of the IT applications roadmap aligned to business goals and compliance requirements.
- Champion digital transformation and automation initiatives to drive operational efficiencies and enhanced customer/patient engagement.
Application Portfolio & Program Management
- Oversee the lifecycle management, enhancement, and support of business-critical applications such as Veeva CRM, MLR, Content Management, Field Medical systems, Patient Support platforms, and associated data pipelines.
- Lead complex cross-functional projects and integrations (e.g., data lakes, data visualization tools, CRM enhancements).
- Ensure delivery of projects on time, within scope, and within budget using structured project governance and agile practices.
Business Engagement & Stakeholder Management
- Build strong partnerships with functional leads in Sales, Marketing, Market Access, Patient Services, and Medical Affairs.
- Translate business needs into system requirements and prioritize development/enhancement backlogs.
- Facilitate change management and end-user adoption for newly implemented solutions.
Compliance & Vendor Oversight
- Ensure all applications comply with GxP, HIPAA, data privacy, and other regulatory standards.
- Manage vendor relationships including software providers, implementation partners, and managed services teams.
- Negotiate and manage application-related contracts, budgets, and SLAs.
Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor a high-performing team of IT professionals, consultants, and third-party providers.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Life Sciences, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 12+ years of progressive IT experience with 6+ years in leadership roles supporting Commercial, Medical Affairs, or Patient Services in the life sciences sector.
Technical & Domain Expertise
- Deep experience with CRM platforms (especially Veeva and Salesforce) and their integration with field, patient, and medical systems.
- Strong understanding of pharma business processes including patient services workflows, field force automation, content review, call center technologies, and digital marketing tools.
- Familiarity with data analytics, MDM, and data integration strategies in a regulated environment.
Leadership & Interpersonal Skills
- Proven ability to partner cross-functionally and influence senior business leaders.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with a focus on translating technical details into business impact.
- Experience managing budgets, resources, and multi-vendor environments.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience supporting commercial product launches and post-launch operations.
- Knowledge of GxP, GDPR, HIPAA, and other compliance frameworks.
- Prior experience working in a fast-paced, growing biotech or pharmaceutical company.
The salary range for this position is $270,000 to $285,000 USD. Compensation will be determined based on several factors including, but not limited to; skill set, years of experience, and the employee’s geographic location. Please note that the required compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits unless otherwise provided.
