Summary of Role: The Manager of Product Planning drives the development and execution of strategic vehicle product and pricing initiatives to achieve sales, profitability, and market competitiveness. This role shapes long-term product strategies by analyzing market trends, customer insights, and competitive dynamics to create distinctive and value-driven vehicle offerings. By collaborating cross-functionally, the manager ensures alignment on product positioning and lifecycle management, providing critical product intelligence that supports business objectives and sustains a competitive edge in the market.

Responsibilities:

  • Initiate long range and/or short-range product concepts and feature recommendations.
  • Recommend vehicle price positioning by analyzing the product content as well as pricing comparisons.
  • Develop lifecycle proposals for product enhancements to improve sales and profitability and recommend pricing and content plans for each model based upon product features and competition, along with price targets for next generation products.
  • Regularly benchmark competitive vehicles, technology trends, societal trends, and general market trends to inform future product and technology roadmap recommendations to executives and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) product teams.
  • Study, develop, and recommend pricing strategies for products “in market”, with consideration given to future product pricing strategies. Develop and manage vehicle pricing guides and price confirmation system.
  • Negotiate transfer pricing and agreements with MMC and third party vehicle manufacturers as necessary.
  • Supervise the preparation and development of vehicle line marketing strategy plans for assigned vehicles and establish the cross-functional new product launch teams for all assigned products.
  • Review advertising, interactive, sales training and public relations materials to ensure accuracy of product information and consistent across all marketing communication channels.
  • Recommend research to evaluate and review -marketing impact, product changes, research studies, advertising, and merchandising.
  • Work with key stakeholders in MMC Tokyo to reach consensus on profitable product strategies for input to MMC vehicle development process.
  • Coordinate and oversee system master files including vehicle ordering, vehicle invoicing, and Monroney label generation. Maintain competitive pricing, market and product feature information database.
  • Manage the activities of work group members by providing opportunities for growth and development, by fostering an environment of open and honest communications, teamwork, creativity, high involvement, and high productivity/efficiency.
  • Initiate and manage the integration of parts and accessory concepts for assigned vehicles.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned or required.

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years progressive exempt sales/marketing/product planning/financial planning experience, including at least three years of product or services pricing experience
  • BA/BS or MA/MS/MBA in Marketing/Business or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Previous professional experience with an automotive wholesaler
  • Previous supervisory/management experience
  • Previous experience with industry research tools and software packages

Pay Transparency: 

The base salary for this position ranges between $120,000 to 140,000. The base salary will be based on a number of factors including the role offered, the individual's job-related knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
