About the Job:

We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Senior Indirect Tax Analyst to provide lead support in ensuring MMNA and its subsidiaries remain compliant with all federal, state, and local tax requirements. This role focuses on sales and use tax but also includes responsibilities across excise, licensing, unclaimed property, and other indirect tax matters.

This position offers the opportunity to work across all 50 U.S. states, managing compliance and research projects that directly impact the company’s financial and operational success. You will play a critical role in ensuring accuracy, minimizing risk, and strengthening internal tax processes.

Role Summary: 

As a Sr. Indirect Tax Analyst, you will take a lead role in ensuring compliance with sales and use tax as well as other indirect tax matters. You’ll research and analyze state and local tax issues, monitor regulatory developments, and serve as a subject matter specialist for both internal teams and external stakeholders. In this role, you will perform routine compliance functions, provide support during audits, contribute to tax planning initiatives, and help strengthen the team by mentoring and cross-training peers.

As a Indirect Tax Analyst, You Will: 

  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of sales/use, excise, and other indirect tax obligations across all jurisdictions.
  • Research and summarize emerging state/local tax legislation, and administrative rulings to ensure the company is compliant in all jurisdictions and mitigate risk.
  • Analyze and reconcile sales/use tax general ledger accounts through current reporting periods.
  • Review consultant workpapers and filings, identify variances, and calculate prospective and historical tax impacts (e.g., tire tax, use tax on company cars).
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of licenses, permits, and resale tax certificates.
  • Monitor tax calendar which includes regulatory and internal requirements and ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Support and lead state/local tax audits, including data preparation, issue resolution, and communication with auditors.
  • Develop, present, and implement process improvement initiatives to enhance compliance efficiency.
  • Serve as a backup to other team members, promoting cross-functional learning and collaboration.

Measuring Your Momentum:

First 90 Days – Getting Up To Speed

  • Present at least one process improvement idea.
  • Clear all outstanding indirect tax notices and respond to new ones within 5 business days from receipt.

Year 1 Victory Lap:

  • Complete sales/use tax GL reconciliations through current reporting periods.
  • Deliver researched analyses on tire tax, use tax (company vehicles) and reconcile findings with consultant workpapers.
  • Maintain 100% accurate and updated license, permit, and resale certificate documentation.
  • Ensure all SALT agencies reflect current company information.
  • Consistently meet or exceed internal/external request timelines, including urgent matters.

Ready to Join the Team, You Should Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3+ years of progressive experience in indirect tax, preferably with sales/use tax compliance and audit support.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. state and local tax regulations and compliance practices.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of tax research tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex tax matters clearly.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet strict deadlines.

Extra Horsepower (Profile Differentiators):

  • CPA, CMI, or progress toward a relevant certification.
  • Prior experience working with external advisors (Big 4 or regional firms).
  • Exposure to unclaimed property and excise tax compliance.
  • Demonstrated success in process improvement or system implementation projects.

Pay Transparency: 

The base salary for this position ranges between $85,000 to $95,000. The base salary will be based on a number of factors including the role offered, the individual's job-related knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
