Position Description
ESL teachers at MLKCSE hold primary ownership for the implementation of ESL curriculum, the instruction of linguistic content, and the growth and success of their students. They value linguistic and cultural diversity and view multilingualism as an asset their students bring to their community. At MLK, ESL instruction is delivered in a self-contained setting as its own Academic Language class during the What I Need block, so students are not pulled out of other core content subjects.
Responsibilities
- Thoughtfully plan for and deliver dynamic and creative English instruction that is high quality, engaging, and aligned to MLKCSE curricular guidance, WIDA State Standards, Common Core State Standards, and Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks
- Provide consistent and high academic and behavioral expectations
- Provide a safe and respectful learning environment that fosters social and emotional competencies and empowers multilingual students to be skilled and competent communicators that actively participate as leaders in their school community
- Communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally with students, families, and colleagues
- Uphold our school’s values, school-wide key systems, and accountability systems for academics and character
- Participate in required collaboration with colleagues around curriculum development, grade-level activities, meetings, professional development, and school-wide functions
- Administer a variety of assessments, record and submit data, address findings, and integrate the use of data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices and interventions
Required Qualifications
- MA ESL teaching certification
- Bachelor's Degree
- SEI or RETELL endorsement
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience preferred, particularly in an urban setting
- Bilingual (Spanish) candidates encouraged to apply
ESL teachers report to the Director of EL Programming.
