Position Description
The Full-Time Occupational Therapist at Martin Luther King, Jr. Charter School of Excellence (MLKCSE) supports the coordination of special education services in accordance to their students' IEPs as related to occupational therapy. This includes delivering specialized instruction aligned to students’ IEP goals and Tier 1 instruction to Kindergarten classrooms . The Occupational Therapist works closely with the classroom teacher to ensure accommodations and/or modifications are being implemented.
Responsibilities
- Provide research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP. which includes implementation of a combination of pull out and inclusion model services depending on the services required by the student’s IEP
- Provide pre-referral prevention/consultation, screening, assessment, and intervention consultation for students
- Plan and execute Tier 1 instruction in Kindergarten weekly
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to assist with planning and implementation of classroom accommodations
- Assist in the development Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to include: instructional goals and objectives, and the related services required to meet those goals
- Do baseline testing to determine educational needs and develop a strategic plan to address weaknesses
- Communicate with Special Education Director, Special Education Teachers, Speech and Language Pathologist, Social Worker, Psychologist and other specialists about student progress
- Participate in assigned professional development
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal or Special Education Director
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Applicants must hold a current Massachusetts Occupational Therapy license and certification by the National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
- Current certification through the Board of Allied Health Professions
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience preferred, particularly in an urban setting
- Prior experience working in an educational setting
- Knowledge of ABA-based teaching procedures is preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish) candidates strongly encouraged to apply
Annual Salary
$70,000 - $80,000
*salary commensurate with experience
