Job Description:
We are looking for an energetic, solution-oriented, and hardworking lawyer to join our Legal team. This individual will report directly to the General Counsel and be directly responsible for our commercial and corporate transactional endeavors across the Company (product, tech, operations, sales, marketing, etc.), including the customer, supplier, procurement, and partner arrangements necessary to deliver with excellence. This role requires a proactive, collaborative team player to provide strategic and critical support and guidance to our growing organization. The best candidate will be flexible enough to engage in a wide range of projects and matters supporting multiple strategic objectives and operational necessities.
This position is remote or hybrid to New York City, depending on the candidate’s location. The range for this role is $160,000 - 240,000, depending on the candidate's location and experience.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead Counsel for business teams on transactional matters, including procurement and other commercial and corporate arrangements while ensuring compliance with applicable Company policies and contractual commitments.
- Provide legal advice on strategic commercial matters and prepare, review, and negotiate complex contracts.
- Lead Counsel for the Company on intellectual property matters, including, copyright, trademark, marketing, licensing, terms of use, and related activities and engagements
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments in corporate, commercial, intellectual property space and other relevant areas
- Lead the design and implementation of legal operational processes, policies, and tools to ensure timely, efficient and effective commercial support
- Support internal and external relationships with our teams, departments and critical partners
- Familiarity with applicable state and federal laws with a focus on consumer finance and protection and related compliance, privacy, data use, and marketing requirements/laws.
- Become a trusted advisor and teammate, sharing legal and other expertise and support when needed
- Identify and evaluate business and legal risks with an eye toward creative problem-solving
Job Qualifications:
- 5+ years of related corporate and commercial experience, preferably within financial services or fintech industry, preferably with a focus on US Consumer Payments Experience (prepaid, debit, credit, and ACH)
- JD from a highly reputable, ABA-accredited law school
- Admitted to practice law and in good standing in at least one state bar/jurisdiction
- Experience with Reg E, consumer finance, privacy, AML, and related marketing laws preferred
- A combination of firm and in-house experience is preferred
- The ability and desire to develop expertise in new or unfamiliar areas of law
- Strong communication skills, detail-oriented and exceptionally organized
- Robust interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Strong organization and self-reliant technology skills
- Ability to multi-task and manage various projects, meet deadlines, excel under pressure, and work independently
- Must be authorized and permanently located in the United States
