ModMed is hiring a driven Staff Data Engineer to provide technical leadership in designing, building, and scaling enterprise data platforms and pipelines. This position drives architectural excellence, ensures reliability and performance at scale, and enables cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality data products that support business growth and innovation. This role is based out of our Boca Raton, FL Headquarters - it is a hybrid role (3 days a week from the office).
Your Role
- Develop and maintain highly scalable, resilient data pipelines ensuring efficiency at massive data volumes.
- Guide and influence data infrastructure architecture with proofs of concept for complex solutions.
- Partner with engineering and product leadership to shape strategy and deliver innovative data products.
- Establish authoritative documentation for enterprise data systems, platform and products.
- Design, develop, QA, and maintain advanced, production-grade data engineering code.
- Provide technical thought-leadership and dependable execution on critical, cross-functional projects.
Skills & Requirements
- Bachelors in Computer Science. Masters in Computer Science is preferred.
- 10+ years experience in Data Engineering.
- Expert-level knowledge of SQL and relational database design, with ability to optimize at scale.
- Extensive expertise with Spark, including advanced performance tuning and large-scale distributed processing.
- Advanced proficiency in Spark/pySpark, driving best practices and mentoring others on efficient usage.
- Strong expertise in data warehouse design, including star schemas, dimensional modeling, and optimization for analytics at enterprise scale.
- Proven experience architecting and building complex data pipelines integrating diverse 1st- and 3rd-party data sources.
- Exceptional problem-solving ability; adaptable, proactive, and consistently taking ownership of complex, cross-functional challenges.
- Strong commitment to quality, architectural excellence, and setting documentation standards across teams.
- Deep experience with AWS cloud services (S3, Athena, EMR, Kinesis) and ability to design cloud-native data solutions.
- Hands-on experience with modern orchestration and pipeline technologies (e.g., Airflow, Luigi), including scaling and automation.
- Proficiency with business intelligence and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Qlik), with ability to design data models that empower analytics.
- Significant experience with Databricks, leveraging it for large-scale data engineering, governance, and advanced analytics.
