About the role 

The Director of Communications at Mojang Studios is seeking a dynamic and strategic Communications Manager to join our Studio. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of one of gaming’s most iconic franchises. The ideal candidate will be responsible for executing local and global internal communication plans that align with our long-term vision and goals. They will deliver communication plans across Stockholm Studio ensuring these teams are aligned with the business and brand strategy and goals. Additionally, this role requires close collaboration across different teams in Stockholm, Redmond, and other locations to ensure efficient execution of initiatives. 

Responsibilities  

Support the Comms Director  

  • Extend the leader's influence by developing relationships with key staff and partners across the Studio. 
  • Develops collateral materials (e.g., decks, posts, talking points) for use in specific communications initiatives and events. 
  • Maximize the leader's time to drive progress towards business and communication priorities.  

Comms Strategy Planning and Operational Execution 

  • In partnership with Comms Director, stakeholders and leaders, assist in driving global decision-making and alignment. 
  • Additionally, be an expert in crafting clear, precise, and meaningful communications, processes, and rhythms for both internal and external audiences.
  • Defines and executes tactics in support of overall strategy, ensuring consistency of voice across messages and channels. Participates in business planning discussions as appropriate.  
  • Translates value proposition into effective communications strategies and storytelling that resonate with target audience(s). Understands, segments, and targets audience needs and adapts communications strategies accordingly.  
  • Scales messages appropriately for a given effort, including expertise in the levers to use to achieve scale and planning for scale from the outset. Embeds diversity and inclusion (D&I) throughout strategy and execution.  

Operations & Communications 

  • Partner with leadership to create communications and clarity around strategy, vision, and objectives. Execute the planning and execution of communication strategy and speaking engagements to ensure successful and impactful use of leadership time.
  • Partner with the leadership team to align on studio rhythm of business (RoB) and team rhythms. Co-design, drive communication strategy in forums and share updates and learnings (e.g., Studio All Hands, Leadership Engagement Opportunities) to ensure our team is plugged into, contributing to, and facilitating cross-organizational activities.
  • Recommend and develop frameworks and commensurate collateral. Solicit feedback and iterate as appropriate. Modify narratives in real time based on reaction/ response. Test effectiveness of messaging. Understands available channels, which channels to leverage, and what to advocate for in terms of messaging as well as understand standardized tools and templates available and use them appropriately.
  • Execute strategy with adherence to program. Use judgment and flexibility to align activities to overall strategy.
  • Deliver an internal and external communications roadmap for the organization.  

Storytelling and Messaging 

  • Develop and engage in story telling opportunities by using data and insights, under supervision from others.
  • Collaborates across teams to develop stories in ways that generate positive perceptions towards Mojang Studios.  
  • Determine the format of a given story. Understand what format is most appropriate and meaningful for a story and target audience(s).  
  • Attend to the cadence of storytelling (e.g., duration, evolution), including content development and curation to land a story.  
  • Create narratives based on messaging frameworks that drive content development and deployment.  
  • Align messaging and storytelling to business priorities. 

Required Qualification  

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in Communications, Marketing Operations, Field Operations, Program Management, Project Management, or related experience. 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • 2+ years' experience supporting senior executives in an executive communications role.
  • Experience driving communication strategy and developing storytelling at a gaming studio or entertainment brand. 

What You Need to Know 

We’re looking for candidates who are eligible to work in Sweden. Since our hybrid work model requires two onsite days per week, you’ll need to be based in Stockholm to collaborate with your team and soak up the studio energy. 

We are happy to welcome international talent and talent outside Stockholm; however, we will not be able to financially support your relocation. If you are located out of Stockholm, relocation is a must.
