Lead Analyst

As a lead data analyst in the Player and Data Insights team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping Minecraft’s’ success by analyzing product and player behaviour. You will work with big data to uncover actionable insights about our games and business and work directly with the game team to establish BI reporting, telemetry, and insights. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, mentor a team of data analysts, and spearhead our data efforts within the product. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Query and analyze big data to uncover high-value insights with direct impact to the Minecraft product strategy.
  • Design data models, architect dataflows, and develop abstractions to deliver scalable solutions for analytics and machine learning, ensuring they can evolve with changing needs.
  • Leverage modern data engineering practices and frameworks with an object-oriented approach to architect, build, and maintain automated data pipelines which transform data into clean, enriched, and accurate information.
  • Leverage advanced analytics techniques to identify opportunities to enhance player experience.
  • Communicate effectively with executive leadership, manage stakeholder relationships and, present data-informed recommendations to drive informed decision-making. 
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and be confident with context switching.  
  • Mentor a team of data analysts, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
     

Required Qualifications 

  • 6-8 years of experience in product analytics and/or SAAS.
  • Proven experience managing strategic projects and collaborating with stakeholders on setting priorities and timelines.
  • Strong project management abilities.
  • Excellent statistical, analytical, problem-solving skills, and creativity in addressing complex challenges.
  • Excellent verbal, visual and written communication skills.
  • Strong Python skills for data processing combined with a Pythonic mindset. Proficient in SQL.
  • Working knowledge of DevOps and DataOps.
  • Experience with guiding the work of a team.
     

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience in analytics within gaming industry and live service. 
  • 2+ years working as an Analytics Engineer or Data Engineer with regular business collaboration or equivalent on large enterprise systems.
  • Advanced understanding of game development and game industry patterns.
  • A proven track record building and optimizing analytic solutions and data products which deliver significant business impact.
  • Experience building, maintaining and optimizing enterprise scale data pipelines handling logs and event streaming data on Cloud Data Platforms using modern tools like Spark, and airflow; Azure preferred.
  • Passion for gaming and entertainment (and Minecraft!).
     

This is a full-time role based in Stockholm with a hybrid remote working model that requires you to be onsite every week. You'll collaborate closely with our studio colleagues in Redmond, USA, and across various disciplines. This position has off hour meetings occasionally mainly with West coast USA representatives.
