Job Overview
The R&D organization is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Associate Scientist to join the biochemistry team. In this role, you will work closely with senior scientists to support the development of high-fidelity, template-independent enzymatic synthesis of nucleic acids. The ideal candidate will have a foundational understanding of enzymology and kinetics and laboratory experience in biochemical assays. We are looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about scientific discovery and innovation. This role is onsite 5 days a week.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct laboratory experiments focused on enzyme characterization and optimization, with guidance from senior colleagues.
- Perform biochemical assays using UV-Vis spectroscopy, capillary electrophoresis, and other chromatographic techniques for detection.
- Formulate and prepare reagents for enzymatic assays and other experimental procedures.
- Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot and optimize experimental conditions.
- Document experimental methods clearly and accurately.
- Summarize experimental data and report conclusions.
- Present findings to the scientific team.
- ad-hoc analyses as needed.
Qualifications:
- B.S. with 2-3+ years or M. S. with 1+ years’ of laboratory experience in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
- Experience working in a fast paced environment, Biotech or Pharmaceuticals.
- Experience conducting enzymatic assays with a fundamental understanding of enzyme kinetics.
- Experience with DNA and RNA polymerases or other nucleic acid modifying enzymes is preferred.
- Proficiency in the operation and basic maintenance of laboratory equipment, including centrifuges, Thermomixers, pH meter, balances, and pipettes.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to perform reproducible experiments.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to prioritize tasks logically.
- Self-motivated and able to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Flexible team player, capable of adapting to changing priorities.
Health & Benefits at MAI:
- Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000. The base salary range represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for this position. The actual base salary offered for this position will be based on many factors including but not limited to individual performance, location of job, experience and skills required for this role.
