Global HR Generalist (US)
About Momence
Momence is a next-gen booking and communications platform for experience-based businesses, such as yoga and pilates studios, gyms, dance schools, salons and spas, golf facilities, swim schools, etc. We help thousands of businesses with scheduling and payments, communication, and automation of their business backend. We also have a customer-facing Momence app, where tens of thousands of customers book their wellness experiences every month.
As a remote-first company backed by Y Combinator (Summer 2020), we are revolutionizing the experience economy by providing modern software solutions to an underserved industry.
About the role
We know a thriving business starts with a thriving team. That’s why we’re excited to welcome a new Generalist to our People Team, to help support the very teammates who make Momence Momence. This individual will play a major role in supporting ongoing people operations, working closely with our People Lead to ensure processes run smoothly. With a careful eye for compliance, process optimization, and organization, they’ll become the first point of contact for some of our most critical and foundational people processes, including payroll & benefits, time off and leaves of absence, and global team support.
We anticipate that the right candidate’s own experience and expertise will shape this role somewhat over time, while acknowledging some core responsibilities that will definitely fall to this individual. The Momence HR Generalist can expect to be responsible for the following:
- Providing first point of contact support to employees with questions regarding HR policies, benefits, payroll, time off/leaves of absence, separations, compensation, and other HR related topics.
- Acting as a subject matter expert for HR compliance (specifically in the United States, but globally is a big plus!), ensuring Momence continues to support its scaling team with the utmost hygiene and care
- Owning the execution of administrative people ops tasks across the company to ensure HRIS optimization.
- Recommending, developing, and revising personnel policies and procedures as necessary, in partnership with other People teammates.
- Collaborate with People teammates to ensure People programs and initiatives (i.e. new hire orientations, employee training, annual reviews, etc.) meet compliance while keeping teammates engaged, closely knit, and motivated, in a global, remote-first work environment.
- Support all areas of People operations as needed, including communications, change management, recruiting, etc.
This is a full-time, exempt position, for which we are considering candidates living in, and authorized to work within, the United States.
About you
You care deeply about people, and believe a meaningful, positive work experience is something we can (and should!) all enjoy. You recognize that People work requires nuance and flexibility, and at the same time know that maintaining tight, well-optimized processes for foundational needs keeps the experience running smoothly for both the People team and the team at large. You’re a People pro who can balance empathy, collaboration, and creativity with tact, discretion, and solution orientation.
You’ve been responsible for the functions of People Operations before, and are confident in managing first-tier People questions, particularly around internal processes & expectations, benefits & payroll, time off and leave administration, and compliance. You have a sharp and confident eye for opportunities to increase People Ops hygiene, protect teammates and business interests, and ensure payroll, benefits administration, and leave administration run smoothly with minimal disruption or confusion to Momence teammates.
If you deftly navigate fast-paced environments, care deeply about supporting a positive work experience, and come with solid generalist experience rooted in compliance and benefits, then this could be a fantastic opportunity for us both!
What you should have
We recognize that any number of experiences or work history could lend extremely well to the right fit for this role, and we are eager to learn more about our candidates’ diverse experiences. That said, the minimum experience and attributes are:
- 3+ years of work experience in HR or People Operations in a fast-paced startup or high-growth environment
- Experience operationalizing the requirements of US and state-specific labor laws to meet and maintain compliance, specifically FMLA, FLSA, employment authorizations, and required trainings.
- In-depth knowledge and technical skills in managing an HRIS; experience using Rippling is a plus!
- Ability to operate with discretion, care, and empathy at a high degree of organization and detail orientation
What would be nice
While not required, we’d be excited to learn more about any experience that pertains to these additional considerations:
- Experience supporting a global team across all time zones
- Demonstrated ability to thrive while working remotely as part of a globally distributed team
- Professional or personal knowledge of the businesses Momence supports: yoga, pilates, and group fitness studios; salons, spas, and wellness centers; class-based experiential businesses serving both adults and children
What we offer
- Excellent medical, dental, and vision benefits
- Access to a robust Employee Assistance Program, mental health resources through Spring Health, and insurance and healthcare navigation support through Rightway
- Home office equipment - we’ll make sure you have what you need
- Generous, flexible vacation policy, in addition to Holidays off; we encourage teammates to take time for themselves!
All offers are contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.
At Momence, we celebrate diversity and strive to create an inclusive environment where there is respect, regardless of your background or identity. We are committed to being an equal opportunity employer and welcome you as you are.
